Only one way to say this .......
Earlier today Greg was in a motorcycle accident.

All I know is that he was hit from behind while waiting to turn left.

As I understand his injuries aren't life threatening but I don't know how serious they are.

I feel for his family at a time like this, I'm just hoping for all of them that comes through this ok.

Goodevening everyone and thanks for all of your support ;)

Just wanted to tell everyone Greg is doing better though he is in alot of

pain! He was stopped at a turn and a car hit him at 40 mph the driver did not

stop until he already hit Greg. Greg was throw onto the car then bounced off of

the hood did a back flip onto his face, his bike skid 60 ft away, it was totaled

He is doing okay now but is definetly banged up. We are hoping for a speeding

recovery. Thanks again for all of the support he will really appreciate it.

Sincerely, Greg's wife Mary Elizabeth

I was stopped for awhile waiting to take the left. long enough to put the bike into neutral and put both feet on the ground and watch an entire train of cars go by. The next thing I knew I was looking at a hood inbetween my legs, then my bike, then the sky, the car and the ground. I landed on my face/hands/knees so they're pretty banged up. My helmet is cracked, but thank god for it.

The car hit my back directly at at least 40mph. The police aren't sure, but it was hard enough to throw a 400 pound object 58 feet on its side. I spent 6 hours in the ER. The doctors and nurses said I'm lucky to be alive and even luckier I didn't at least break my back. Apparently I'm "built like an ox"...

I've never been so scared as I was the half hour I was laying on that stretcher not knowing if I would walk again, and I feel like an asshole for putting myself in that position. As a 'biker' you tell yourself that as long as you're a good rider and you pay care to the road, you'll be alright. The truth is you just can't trust that other people are watching out for you.

The bike is indeed totaled, but it's the last time I'll ride one. Putting my wife and children through that kind of worry was careless and irresponsible to say the least.

As for me, I'll live. Whiplash, road rash and a back-ache that rivals anything I've felt before is a decent reminder of what could have happened. I have to go in to the sports place on Monday to see what kind of physical therapy I need and what nerve damage was done (fingers and toes are still a bit numb), but I'm walking around - I look like a wobbly statue, but I'm not the type of person to sit around feeling sorry for myself. I even got out to see the Bourne Ultimatum after leaving the ER.

As for myeeos, I'll be back to work next week (Mary, you didn't read that).

Thank you all for your kind words. And to those of you thinking of getting a bike, it's just not worth it. You're not invincible and it can happen to you.

glad you're ok greg. But seriously..bikes are so dangerous...it doesnt matter how good or careful you are...there will ALWAYS be idiots on the road that you have no control over. I have heard at least 4 people being killed that were close friends of my family that were killed on a motorcycle. motorcycles are cool, flashy and make you feel alive...but they truly are not worth it...the smallest accident can take your life, I'm not a big cheerleader of banning stuff....but I really feel motorcycles have no place on the road...its just too dangerous and claims too many lives.

bikes are defiantly dangerous, I know too many people who have been seriously injured or killed on them ie cousins I have.

It really scares me when you see bike riders who wear thongs, shorts and a t-shirt its really asking for trouble because if you have a fall its very very dangerous.

riders who wear full leathers and boots and stuff are a lot smarter.

Wow! Thank goodness I missed the 'waiting' part of all this and was able to read from Greg's wife and Greg himself that things, while painful, aren't a hugely life-changing event (i.e. wheelchair, head injuries).

Greg! Dude! I'm glad you are walking away from this, albeit rather wobbly. Now, f*ck off, rest and spend some r&r with your family - they deserve to have you all to themselves for a while.

Putting my wife and children through that kind of worry was careless and irresponsible to say the least.

While I understand what you're saying, it wasn't you who was careless or you who was irresponsible. You shouldn't never ride again if you enjoy it. Having said that I have no wife and no children, so the priority you're speaking about I can't fully appreciate.

Good to hear you're ok.

Alrighty, here's my thoughts on this situation. Thank god that you're okay Greg! As you've stated, it could've been much worse. But the thing I don't understand is why you're blaming yourself for what happened, not entirely. Your decision to enjoy the amazingness of a bike wasn't irresponsible or careless. You did something you wanted to, because you liked it. I can understand if you never get on a bike again, but don't blame yourself for causing worry. It happens, just like ****! ;)

Idk, I just think you're being a little hard on yourself. Good luck with therapy & hopefully you'll make a speedy recovery! :)

You sound like my friend who was in a motorcycle accident. He landed on his head and shattered his clavicle, broke ribs, broke his wrist. 4 days later he's at a bachelor party and refusing to take pain killers because he wanted to drink. Next day he was in bed for 4 days straight in pain. Take your time and rest up.

I just want to say that I don't normally like people I meet on the net. But I like Greg.

Greg is one of the few people I've met online that I've never met in person but can say without a single moment of pause that he is a genuinely good guy and deserves all the best things in life.

Bad things happen to good people sometimes too unfortunately. I'm not the praying type (I own agnosticforums.com) but I do hope your wounds heal quickly bro. Stay tough and hang in there. Soon this'll all be behind you and you'll look back and chuckle at how lucky you are. It could have been a lot worse from the sounds of it, you could have just as easily gone under the car instead of over it.

Let us know if you develop any special super human powers.

Makes me think of the Jackson Brown lyrics. How we keep working, fighting , giving in the struggle for what is best in our lives, though it can end in an instant - We get up and do it again.

(sorry, have to paste part of the lyrics now)

I'm going to rent myself a house
In the shade of the freeway
I'm going to pack my lunch in the morning
And go to work each day
And when the evening rolls around
I'll go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes streaming in
I'll get up and do it again
Amen
Say it again
Amen

I want to know what became of the changes
We waited for love to bring
Were they only the fitful dreams
Of some greater awakening
I've been aware of the time going by
They say in the end it's the blink of an eye
And when the morning light comes streaming in
You'll get up and do it again
Amen

Caught between the longing for love
And the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
And the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the Pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there

Ah the laughter of the lovers
As they run through the night
Leaving nothing for the others
But to choose off and fight
And tear at the world with all their might
While the ships bearing their dreams
Sail out of sight

I'm going to find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint-by-number dreams
And then we'll put out dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again
Get it up again

Sorry to hear about your accedent, glad to hear you will be ok. Had the same thing happen to me (car cut me off) but stupid me I was not waring my leathers and I slid 30 ft on the skin of my arms, shoulder and ankel. Later that year I lost two close frineds to motorcycle accedents and decided to hang up my boots for good. Now for thrills I race stand up jet ski's .... you can fall off at 60mph and laught about it.

Best of luck in your recovery.

Ox lol. Good for a laugh guys, thanks.

My wife and sister drove by this guys house today and took pictures of the car that hit me. I don't have an XD slot on this laptop so I'll have to wait to upload them, but you can see where my back hit the hood hard enough to leave a sizable indent and quite a nice fold in the hood. The pain makes more sense after seeing how I and the bike were hit, but how I'm walking is truly beyond me. I'm not a god-fearing man but part of me wants to say someone had to be watching out for me on this one.

I've got a lot to do tomorrow, but I'll see if I can't stop by the office and upload some pictures of the car and my bike (I'll spare you the pictures of my leg :P).

Greg, good to hear you are alright! Motorcycle accidents are pretty much as bad as it can get!
Helmet or not, sometimes its inneviatable. I lost 2 of my best friends on St. pattys day in a motorcycle accident. They were on a highway over pass and the bike got high on the ramp. They hit the wall and went over the side landing on I-95 below. Helmet, riding suit and gloves, nothing can be done. They both passed immediatly. I also live in FL, where the helmet is an option...a good one at that.

Im a firm believer in "its not if...its when."

profilehohoho
August 13th, 2007, 05:27 AM
I always wear helmet but that's not a guarantee you'll survive.. Somebody can hit you with very small speed or you fell by small speed and you can be still dead in a sec
