Changing your MSP username is a no go from now on. When usernames are changed, entire indexes have to be rebuilt and it slows the server down to a crawl. We might have like one day where we allow people to change their names, but it won't happen anytime soon unfortunately.

I'm wondering is this something that happens on all vBulletin forums, or just on here?

Maybe a $25 charge added for name changes as well ;)?

All vbull forums, its how they store the data in the database. Rather then a reference to the persons profile, they will jsut use there name, kinda of silly sometimes but it has a lot of benifits as well.
So our names are scattered in different areas of the db, which is why we have to rebuild the database if somebody wants there name changed. If we didnt it would break so much crap it isnt even funny.

That's a great idea! If we ever do a day where we can "change our usernames" I hope i'm online LOL

So is this bad for SEO? Cause my users always ask me to change their names, it's kind of annoying.

It's not a problem with SOE, it's just a problem with having to use the resources of our server to rebuild database tables.
