View Full Version : Suggestion: Permission required to use the term "HQ"

My suggestion is that people should need to have permission to use the term "HQ" when selling layouts, glitters, or anything else.
I don't think this would be too hard to enact. I would just suggest having a small subset of people who have the power to decide whether the term "HQ" is appropriate. If not, maybe they simply delete the term "HQ" from the post or something.

We should just ban the term HQ, haha....

Agreed. I already have a "vent" thread about this. :)

I'll start using "UGLY" in my sales threads.

This rule isnt necessary. The buyer will determine if it is HQ or not and make his purchase accordingly.

I agree about banning it. I'm tired of seeing "10 HQ Glitters" and you open it up and its some crap that a newbie put together and they don't know the first thing about making glitters

yeah that would be a good idea.
I wouldnt say my glitters are HQ and looking at my threads I've also never claimed/posted them to be either but I think theyre pretty decent enough. but then I go and look at other threads where someone has actually posted that they are HQ, I look at the samples and start laughing. and thats because theyre crappy and you can tell theyre rushed and just chucked together so the seller can earn quick money.
Some people just have big egos I guess. but that suggestion should be taken into consderation :P

Lol yeh, to be honest everyone just uses the term now. It's kinda funny when someone uses it then you see what they're offering is barely "HQ". Besides whats HQ to one person might be disgusting in someone elses eyes. I was shown a post recently by a friend and the glitters in my opinion were quite ugly, yet someone had said "best glitters ever".
Maybe people should just advertise what they're selling "20 unique glitters" etc... then let the buyers decide if it's HQ, most of the time it's false advertising. :/

It is subjective - what one person considers high quality will not be to another. I think it is best not to use the term.
Dale
July 8th, 2007, 09:45 AM
I could name all the people i consider to make "high quality" stuff and the people I think make crappy stuff, it's just my opinion. I don't consider myself to be a HQ designer (in the past, yes i admit to posting a thread calling myself HQ, but that was way back when) :P I just refuse to buy anything that is labeled HQ, all the good designers here NEVER post their stuff as high quality, and I buy from them :)

Just judge for yourself if it's "HQ". If you don't like them, move on.

That isnt the problem, we're all fed up with people calling their stuff HQ. If it happened once in awhile, it wouldn't be a big deal, but I bet you if you go through the recent Marketplace threads, you'll see alot of "10 HQ Glitters!" "15 super HQ layouts!", etc kind of threads

Why worry about it? Let the offered materials speak for themselves. Maxwell Mulch coffee has been claiming to be the best for the last 100 years or so. Big deal.
A more worthy concern is the recent trend of sellers posting 5 or 6 really nice-looking samples, and then delivering 600 pieces of playskool garbage to customers who send perfectly good money in exchange for them.

I still don't see the big deal in this. I remember I used to make stuff in photoshop and say "wow that's really good", then a year later "wow that really sucks", so maybe the designers just think it's high quality but it's not.
Do your homework before you buy something. Just because it says HQ it doesn't mean you should buy it right away. Ask for more examples, or ask someone who just bought the pack, graphics, etc.

I agree with what lyzyrdgyzyrd said. I think there needs to be a rule that you post X amount of samples, whether it be a percentage of the pack or what.
As for describing glitters as "HQ" or not, that is just a joke IMO. I look at it and laugh. That's like these personal ads you see...everyone describes themselves as 'cute, pretty, hot, etc etc....' sexy woman, 5'1, 395lbs.. if them describing themselves as sexy or hot, etc makes them feel better, than who cares.... each person should formulate their own opinion on it :)

let the buyers decide. who wants to sit on a forum all day evaluating glitters and layouts to determine if they are HQ so they can give the sellers the ok to use the term. even then that dont mean me or anyone else will think its HQ

It would be cool to see a more advanced rating sytem though. Just rating after a sale 1-5 stars on quality and 1-5 stars on professionalism/timely delivery. Probably not really worth the effort anyway. Caveat emptor always works.

a rating system on the sales thread would be cool. let all the buyers rate the sales and if you have 5/5 stars your HQ

yeah, thatd be cool  if the word "HQ" keeps getting used too much, an admin could set a word censor for it or something. Maybe even make it censor to "crappy" so if someone posts "20 HQ glitters for sale", itd say "20 crappy glitters for sale" :devil2:

The only problem with a rating system IMO is that it might tamper with someones decision to buy. If I were to sell things, I don't want other people rating my work and having that rating displayed publically. Someone else might come along and say 'oh, i really like those... but oh... it only has a 2 out of 5 rating... other people must not like it so I'll move on to the next things.'
I say stick with the 'ol "to each his own".

Ughh. Not gonna happen. Not that I don't agree the term HQ is thrown around too much, I do. But this kind of thing would be taking it a bit far.

How about a distinction between actual "glitters" and "snow"?
A majority of the "glitters" being sold on this site look more like "snow". IMO

i think saying HQ about something is just like saying someone is ugly you may think they are but someone may think they are beautiful i think its really up to the buyer if you don't like it don't buy it lol

This one I don't agree with. I think glitter graphics are just sort of evolving into better quality animated graphics. I say let the names evolve along with the product.

Couldn't agree more. These images are all turning into snow and NOT glitter.

I agree totally, I was going to post but it would have been exactly what you just said.
To Dale - the first thing that comes to mind when I look at your avatar is Xtreme! :) or actually it kinda looks like those strike card things in the price is right game where you reach in the bag and either pull out a degit from the price of the prize or a strike. Bob barker happens to be one of my fav gameshow hosts, he deserves his own glitters actually.

I feel bad! I put "HQ" next to mine only because I saw that it seem to be the "norm" on here. Though in my defense, I do work darn hard to make great graphics....well, in my mind I do...oh well.:P

lol thanks dale. I'm sure everyone has different opinions in which HQ means. I don't think i will be using that word anymore. On other forums everyone uses it so its like why bother viewing if you know it won't be high quality? It is really a waste of time. I was thinking of making a new work for high quality or something that means the same but a different word because now high quality is kind of like A-Waste-Of-Time-To-Look Quality lol

I don't care honestly. Let them falsely advertise their stuff, it just makes them look stupid.
If they don't get any buyers, something will click and say "oh well maybe these suck ***"
and then they just wasted 5 bucks.
