Before this turns into a fight:
I'm not dissing on anyone's thread in particular, just venting which i'm allowed to do, so please don't try arguing with me.
I'm getting so freaking tired of seeing "HQ___" and "High Quality ___" over EVERY single damn sales thread! Over half of these, are NOT high quality! I'm both a designer and a buyer, so I like to look at both sides... there is only 2-3 people on here who I think actually design HQ work -- funny thing? They DON'T put "HQ" in the title or thread. Seriously, everyone is throwing around the word High Quality like it's a hot potato!
Please, stop! Seriously. It's out of control! I'm almost to the point where I don't want to buy ANYTHING because of all this false advertisement. I think you should leave it up to your CUSTOMERS to post that your graphics are HQ -- not you. You just make yourself look full of sh!t and then the buyers get p!ssed for false advertisement.
</End Rant>

Yeah, I agree. I don't even buy glitters anymore, and that being one of the reasons.

Thank you. Good to see others feel the same. *Hint Hint, Designers*

I agree as well.
Of course to the person designing them, they will be high quality but its not up to them to decide if they are or not. It's the buyers choice.
Shoot, I wouldn't dare call my stuff high quality for the simple fact someone who thinks their not will start judgement and I wouldn't want that.

Yeah I totally agree, it gets annoying when you see all these threads with HQ on the title, yet when you actually go on, it's far from HQ =/ But maybe some people honestly think their work IS hq but isnt to buyers on the forum? I dunno :S
Precious
June 30th, 2007, 07:59 AM
That's why I said leave it up to the buyer to decide if what the seller is selling, is actually HQ. Because I do like to think that most of the time my work is HQ since I do spend alot of time on it - but to other people, it can be as low of quality as you can get.
I'll admit, I used to put "HQ" or "High Quality" in the title, but then I realized that just because I think they are HQ, doesn't mean everyone else does as well... so I stopped doing that. Which when I stopped, it seems like that's when everyone else started.
So this is kind of my hint to them, to stop calling their work HQ and maybe they'll get more buyers? :)

Exactly Angiie, everyone thinks THEIR best work is HQ because it's their work. Even though others may highly disagree... HQ is just thrown around too much, keep it out of the thread title and if a customer believes they are HQ then they should post saying so. Leave it up to the buyer to declare it.

you know i am with you on this one, i don't know how many times we have talked about this same thing. about 3 of the layout designers i would consider HQ designers and maybe 2 of the glitter designers.....just cause you save your work at the highest quality settings does not make the product HQ :P

I agree. I think someone who is just starting graphics shouldn't be turning around and selling a pack listed as HQ. I have seen a lot of threads that say "im new to glitters, what do you think" then the next day they have a sales thread listed as "HQ".
I may have been guilty of listing mine as HQ in the past, but I think I've built enough of a rep for the buyers to know whether or not my stuff is HQ.

I have seen a lot of threads that say "im new to glitters, what do you think" then the next day they have a sales thread listed as "HQ". That is what really pushed me into making this thread. I can name atleast 4 people (But i wont :P) who are like "How do you make glitters?" or "This is my first pack, be gentle. BUT ITS HQ"... wtf??? I've been talking to Jason for quite awhile about this (as he said above) and trying to decide if I should make this thread or not -- and well, as you can see i've finally done it.

Dang, by time I saw it (from you saying so) it was 2008... I should play the lottery tonight. ;)
Anyways. But seriously, designers please stop listing your stuff as HQ - leave it up to your buyers to tell everyone its HQ.

It's a marketing technique, I can't blame them. Maybe they should just use other words though.

true. it's what makes people open their thread. I know i think its annoying too, but why cant u guys keep it to yourselves. Why tell everyone that u think its annoying? Why open a thread bout this? Its a marketing technique, that's it.. What about some others that say "best deal" isnt that the same.. think about it... I truly understand those who say "HQ" that's what most businessmen do.

i think its way over used to the point i dont even open most threads labeled HQ. i have just been sticking to the few designers i know have HQ stuff
RKGraphics
June 30th, 2007, 06:33 PM
my point is, marketing technique or not, its not the right technique. most of the HQ threads listed are not even close to being high quality. they look like normal stuff to me. i just dont think its even needed honestly. people are going to open the thread if they need the glitters, regardless if it says HQ, imo. but it is just being thrown around.
and best deal and high quality are two different things.

Maybe everybody could show some examples of what they think "HQ" is to give others a better idea if their stuff is indeed HQ or not. Or link to marketplace threads they have been pleased with and felt the images were HQ? Somebody might think their stuff is HQ but then if shown examples of what others think HQ is.. they may realize theirs isnt and figure out what they need to do to improve? Just an idea ;)

I don't really know where the hq glitters came from. hq layouts are specific- background, contact table, network, original and coded. But hq glitters??

I'm so glad someone feels the same way I do about this. I've seen it on a lot of forums, not just here.
Even if you believe your stuff is high quality, what's wrong with a little modesty? Being positive is one thing but being arrogant is another.
I do disagree that there's only two or three people that make high quality graphics though.

the only glitters i consider HQ are ones that use actual images not just text and dingbats dont count.
as a buyer when i look for HQ layouts I am looking for something that.....
1. looks professional with HQ images, formatted matching text, transparent tables, and maybe even colored scroll bars.
2. all 3 images bg, contact, and network image must be completely different yet matching images not just cropped versions of the background

I agree with you I am tired of seeing it as well. I mean if they are good graphics and you are sure of it it is one thing but the term has become a generic catch phrase.
I used to put it in my titles because I am assuming mine are pretty good judging by the amount I have sold but now the word means nothing.
It just weebles my marbles when I see HQ in a title only to open the thread to find glitters with jagged edges, cheap/dull colored clip art and glitter that looks like a fairy is puking on the graphic.

ohsnapp LOL if i stopped putting HQ in my threads would you think it was actually high quality HAHA
I've been told that my work is pretty high quality but everyone has a different opinion. I don't like my graphics particularly, I mean they're okay but I don't think they're HQ - I put that in my threads because before I post a sales thread I preview the items to people and ask them if they would buy it. If they're like 'yeaaa dude thats dopee' then im like alright cool and I put it up :)
