View Full Version : The attitude of some 'designers' here stinks

I am quite frankly appalled at the attitude of many of the 'designers' on this forum. Unprofessional, rude and apathetic are three polite words to describe what went on in this thread (http://www.myspacepros.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7304) where someone offered $100 for some design submissions. He was specific in what he was looking for and he was professional throughout. Instead of some outstanding artwork which I know some of the designers here are capable of producing he got some 'take it or leave it' half-arsed efforts.

Personally, I've made a point of NOT buying layouts or graphics ever since I encountered the attitude of 'you can't use that design to promote your site' and other similar guff. Geeze! People buy the stuff PURELY to promote their sites, earn money and therefore buy more designs.

What I'm seeing is customers ands site owners getting driven away from the forum simply because they don't want to deal with crap like I've outlined above - and it is by no means comprehensive - there are plenty of examples.

Seriously, I'm astonished at the type of sh*t being thrown about.

I don't see it as a problem really. There's only 3 layout designers on here that when you see a thread title that says "HQ Layouts" you know there will be HQ layouts.

The rest just use that title.

So easy answer... I just buy from those 3. I bought packs from 2 of them today and I'm just waiting on the other to produce a pack.

In other words, let your $$$ do the talking. When they stop getting purchases theyll start a thread whining about it then eventually go away.

Well said.

I read that whole thread and I'm both a designer and a buyer and from a designers point of view I think that was all taken very unprofessionally. As a buyer you want to buy something only to your specifications and you want it exactly that. The designers shouldn't have been so defensive if he didn't like their design and wanted something changed it's the way it works.

I have to agree. I both buy, and sell. And I know if I was paying to get a custom design, I would want it exactly how I want it.

Yes, this is true... so long as you know your way around the people on the forum.

I think what got to me about that particular thread was the way the guy got a raw deal and all he wanted was a graphic designed. Absolutely disgraceful, imo.

Yeah, that other thread went out of hand. We can't blame the man for being so picky.

i know im kinda newbie, but not new to forums or the business. i saw the contest. ive seen other threads as well. it seems attitudes have been less than welcoming around here in some threads. it does make someone like me who does buy and sell not want to stick around and deal with it.

i hope i don't have such an unwelcomed reception. i do graphics, and i do business. thats what you'll get from me. i felt for the poor guy. people have different personalities...you wave a hundred bucks in my face, and i'll keep going until someone wins, or i give him what he wants. or i don't have to participate. simple enough right?

i don't think all designers try to just slap something on there and call it high quality. i do think, however, what he wanted needed to be hand drawn and some designers don't know how to do that, so they work with what they have. i know some people said that to him respectfully.

exactly what i think also. I mean some of our designers probably tried really hard to get what he wanted and when a designer tries hard and their work is rejected, it doesnt feel so good, so i can understand from a designers prespective. As a buyer i would also want to have the perfect design, so what he was asking was fine

Well as a designer and a buyer people have to realize sometimes its just business. As a designer it may hurt when somebody doesnt like your stuff but thats life and thats business. One person may like it another one may not. The truth is everybody has different talents and maybe what they requested is not yours. That doesnt mean you shouldnt try but that you should take into account any critique given as a moment to analyze your skills and think how can I refine them. There are alot of wonderful designers here and some that are not yet they claim they have HQ work. It may hurt when somebody burst your bubble but think what other way can you get better if you dont take suggestions. Personally I prefer when people let me know what they want since it helps you become better. If you always get angry then you will never learn anything new. Like I entered a few contest but I didnt win yet I got 5 new clients lol. I mean you never who's watching that does like your style. I think people need to chill out at times and realize its business not personal all the time. If you are going to enter something there can only be 1 winner and if you act rude that could be the loss of future business without you even knowing just cuz of an attitude problem. Being polite pays off in the long run.

i think the problem here is this guy was looking for a custom design and he had this criteria that some company would use...

this guy thre down 100 bucks thinking it was alot...but you must remember if you go to a graphics design place and ask for a custom desing and throw down 100 bucks they will say get lost...

graphics designs places charge top dollar for these types of jobs.

but $100 is alot for a 15 year old GD I guess...so maby I am wrong

I did think that a lot of the replies in the thread were uncalled for, and after a couple tries, I just gave up. I think I may have made one sort of snippy post because I misread something he posted and took it the wrong way, but it wasn't over the top as many of the others were. I saw that I couldn't do what he wanted, so I gave up, and wasn't offended in the least that he didnt' like my design, because I wasn't too happy with it either, but hey, those were the stipulations he gave.

I'll agree though, I see rude posts all over the place. I think many designers get offended when others don't like their designs, but hey thats life. Not everyone's going to like your designs.

I do hope though that I'm not one of the rude designers everyone's referring to, and if I am, I want you to call me out on it so I can fix it.

I am going to side witrh the designers and not the german on this one. He simply didn't ask enough and made off remarks at some of the more respected members here callong someone 'weird'. Maybe if he was offering $300 he would have gotten somethign better but creating original graphics isn't easy (especially as something as complicated as an annoyed pimp). Consider that it takes 2 hours to make it and you win. Thats only $50 an hour. But since there is a probability you will lose (we'll say 1/3) you expected value is much less at only $17 an hour. Doesn't seem worth it.

Thats why I don't bother with graphic design and layouts. I don't like cuctomers and they are demanding.

I think the problem is with any "business" is just that- they are doing business and are only interested in the cash. Sounds harsh but i think it's tru :) But many people only come here to make money (ignore my name, also LOL, i'm still a friendly person even if i came here to do that, too!) :P :wheelchair:

I'm with both sides on this. The guy said what he wanted, and people got mad at him. I got turned down, and I'm just peachy (lmao). But then, the designers had a right to get mad. He kind of changed what he was looking for. But whatever. It's all over now ;) Just my opinion here.

I'm on the designers side. I didn't even see this thread.. but the contest holder was acting utterly rude. Sure, he has the right to ask for something changed, and regardless of whether English was his first language or not, he should still know what he is talking about and treat people with the respect he wants himself to be treated with.

I don't know laars, but simply signaling laars out like this, it's uncalled for, and shows the immaturity of the buyer.
K, thx bye and have a nice life. I'm sure I'll get an good logo desiged with people appreciate my business and dont act like newbies. *I mean laars*

I think 'marcowitsch' needs to learn to treat other with more respect. There are many other non english users here, but still treat the english users with respect, and in return the non english users get respect. "What you give out, you get back in".. someway or another. He is going on about threatening to just go and see a design studio.. why not just go ahead and do it, instead of wasteing everybodies time, who is interested?
