View Full Version : @#$%^&* ClearWire

If it's not one thing it's another.

When we moved into the new building our only choice (we thought) was to go wireless with ClearWire. First let me say that ClearWire is great for what it is. If you're just using it for one maybe to machines for home use it's an awesome alternative to DSL or Cable. It's stable and always on. But...

We spent the last 30 hours at the office straight except for going home to shower this morning and got about 3 hours of work done because we can't keep an FTP connection to save our lives. I thought it was DreamWeaver at first, but it's not.

Hunter Communications to the rescue:
Today we call around and find out we can get a full duplex fiber connection of 40Mbit for about 10x what we're paying for wireless. Done. Sign us up. I went to some of the other businesses here and everyone I have talked to is going to get onboard in some form or another. They're coming out to provision the building early this week so there's no definite ETA other than "soon enough".

So things are going to be delayed at least a couple days. We are going to set up office at my house in a couple days if it doesn't happen soon enough though.

So I really should be cursing the owners of the complex we're in for not provisioning the building for Cable when they built it, but I'm blaming ClearWire for not having the horsepower to handle our needs.

This also served as an announcement as to what the hell is taking us so long with myeeos. I can't possibly described the frustration of the last two days because of this issue other than to say I would sell Jason to a gypsy to get reliable access right now ;)

Look at the bright side, you could be running dial-up again. Even Google.com would take long to load.

Update:

The guy from Hunter came out and they're going to get us set up with 4mbit up and 4mbit down wireless by Thursday and pull fiber to the building in 45 days when we'll get the full 40 by 40. Problem solved.

So stay tuned and hold on just a few more days and we'll get this thing rockin!

Optimists like us tend to make people angry because they WISH they could look on the bright side like us. I will add to your post.

Look at the bright side, you could be running dial-up again, AND you could have a bee infested office and be covered in HONEY.
Thats my favorite line to add to anything. Seriously, it makes me feel like its DEFINITELY not as bad as it could be.

Glad everything's sorted out, I want to get this ball rolling.

^ good, someone who's in the same timezone as me :)

Oh random question if anyone can answer it. How many Mbps in a Mbit? I'm really too tired to open up google right now. I have a 54Mbps wireless connection right now...it's relatively fast but I want adsl+2 cos myspace has been really pissing me off lately.
that was probably spammish sorry.

When it rains it pours...

Hi Greg-

I have attached two wireless agreements for service at your office. The contracts run for our standard 24 month term, but I have included a clause within Section 3 which will allow termination of the wireless agreements with no termination fee if you enter into a fiber agreement with us. Let me know if you have any questions. We would need to have signed copies of the contracts prior to installing the wireless units.

I have also attached a letter of permission for property modification to be signed by your landlord/building owner. We would also need a signed copy of this form prior to installation. We realize that they do not want any kind of roof penetration and have already begun to procure non-penetrating roof mounts for your units. These roof mounts cost an additional $75 each (this is what we pay for them) and would be added to your first invoice.

I have done everything possible to put a rush on providing you with service, but have hit a snag with the roof mounts as they will not arrive until Friday, pushing the first available time to install to first thing Monday morning. I wish we could do it sooner, but unless we receive permission from the owner to penetrate the roof when mounting the units that doesn’t look possible.

The good news is that we have begun discussing getting fiber over to you and it looks like we are going to do everything possible to cut the installation cost in a big way. We realize that your location is prime for opportunities and are making it a priority to get fiber over there.

Anyway, let me know what you think Greg, and how you would like to proceed. Thanks again for the opportunity, and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Sam Ackley

Update:

Spoke with Sam several times today as well as the guys from Hunter out here provisioning the building for fiber. The install guy got called to Portland on an emergency this weekend and now they say we have to wait until Wednesday to install it. I told Sam this is an emergency so he's got calls into everyone in the valley certified to do this installation with the note that we're willing to pay them whatever it cost to have them get it done today.

More as the drama unfolds....
