ok people I have a myspace site which gets any where from 1000-2000 uniques a day, yeah i know these figures suck lol...but ive only been in the business 3 months :D
What i need is a reliable hosting company where I can host my myspace site and around 9 other smaller domains. Thing is Im currently using a 100mb free hosting account with my ISP which allows me to have a fair bit of bandwidth aswell I have never had any dramas from them!
Ialso want to upload just some personal stuff like large files i need to upload.
A guy on digital point is trying to sell me the following -
2GB space.
350GB Bandwidth.
PHP, MySQL, ASP, .NET, Perl fully supported.
Plesk 7.6 control panel
Unlimited domains.
$25/month
hmmm this guy is just like a user on the forum so he may be dodgey I would rather go with a larger company??? O rgo with this smaller guy who claims to host 50 other people aswell..his name is EXE!
I was thinking dream host but ever one hates them with vengance lol
I would like to spend around 30 bucks a month on this :D

I love dreamhost, and I can get you a big discount. My total cost for my first year was about $30. 1tb bandwidth, 20 gigs of space, and unlimited add on domains. You should try dreamhost, it's more than enough for a myspace site, and even more sites.

30 bucks a year sounds good is that discount still going??

more like $23/year or something. they get you for using too much cpu but so far that hasnt been a problem with my myspace site. if you use up a ton of bandwidth, they are perfectly fine with it
Sergio
September 23rd, 2006, 03:06 AM
I can't find it, but I remember googling "dreamhost coupon". I don't see why people would hate dreamhost, it's only been down like 3 times over the past 6 months. They also have a blog and explain why it's down. Plus, unlimited domains!

People hate it because they will turn off your sites with no warning if they decide your causing a problem with their server.

Oh Mr Geek let them find out for themselves cause they will not listen to people that have sites that have grown only to have DH shut them down even though DH has promised them the WORLD.
I see some here praising DH but the day will come when you will make a post here that will sing a different tune.
All I will say then is "I told ya so"
When this happens your site will be jamming and your traffic will be well then all of a sudden your down and there is a email in your inbox waiting for you. You will be scambling around looking for a host but you dont want to move to another host that will do the same as DH has. You will be down for weeks and you will be complaining day in and day out.
The money you lose during this time will just piss you off beyond words can describe and your traffic will slow cause no site is present.
So Go ahead and see what the GREAT promise of Unlimited domains and massive BW and transfer can do for you but suck you in with a GREAT sales pitch that they dont and wont deliver.

ok PGZ reccomend me something then,
This is a forum to help people with myspace sites and give them advice on who to choose,
no offence but that post felt very angry towards me, and very negative.
Reccomend me something to go with?????? dont put on this whole "let them find out for themselves" attitude.

Sorry that you took my post the wrong way. It was posted not towards anyone at all but to people in general.
I just hate seeing people screwed over because of promises. I would suggest doing alot of homework when it comes to a host.
Im not saying this cause Im a MOD here but you should go with someone that knows you are running a MySpace site and knows it will grow and you will be moving your package up once the time comes to do so without shutting you your site down before you move up.
I have heard that Greg is providing hosting and saying he is the OWNER of this site he knows what to expect from this type of site and will work with you as you grow.
So I suggest you PM Greg and see what he has to offer for hosting before jumping into something that could end up being the worst mistake for your site.
Again Sorry you took my post the wrong way.

yes I think I did take it the wrong way :D
as you can see I am doing my home work before deciding on a host,
a few people seem to be reccomending dream host and providing these affiliate numbers, I think they are just posting good comments about dream host to get people to use their affiliate codes?
I dont think I am going to go with dream host as too many bad comments keep popping up about them.
I will just keep looking, thanks for the suggestions people.

i have a dedicated at aplus.net right now but it is not hosting my msrs site. i have hosted a couple proxies on it before with absolutely no issues.
other hosts i have used for dedicated servers are eleven2 and layeredtech which are both good.

I have both my servers through LayeredTech. They cost me $430 a month.
I was cut off at DH and went to another shared host and was turned off there also within 1 week even after telling them how much traffic my sites recieved.
I got my own dedicated and got my sites back up but I was down like 2 1/2 weeks altogether and it cost me more than you can imagine.

Dreamhost, hostgator, midphase/anhosting, they will all cut you off when you reach somewhere between 300 and 500K daily hits.
Of course, until you do, they are all lovely people.
Connections, you took PGZ's post the wrong way, I don't think he was angry at all, just annoyed that he keeps warning that Dreamhost shuts you down but other members keep recommending them anyway.
PGZ
September 24th, 2006, 08:25 PM
Yep Fishfinger Midphase is the other one that shut me down even after I told them what my sites did.
They have a 30 DAY money back deal and I was only up 1 week so I got all my money back when I had to move.

I'm on "greghost" and so far like it. Only have my FS site on there but it seems to run fine as is though I don't have much traffic at all. It's not a dedicated (yet :() but a really good deal considering the resources and space/bandwidth available. It's also nice knowing that the host knows the market and knows what to expect as far as resources and traffic go and there is no way the site would get "shut down" for anything like that. If anything, it would actually probably help the script and sites evolve as Greg get more chances to see massive sites in working enviorments and able to plan out future updates and such.
I can't complain about other accounts I have had so much, but I do feel I am getting a good deal from a trusted source and even for cheaper than what I was using which is a positive in my mind.
I don't know anything about needed specs on a dedicated server or what it would take to make an average server crawl but I know that Greg has an idea and can help adjust things as he sees it needed, which is great for someone just getting into this stuff.
Also as mentioned, I don't get paid or get any commission for saying so...just stating my own opinion and following it up as it is what I actually chose with my own money ;).
PGZ I wish I had the traffic for the need to pay $430 a month lol. Still got a long way to go but looking forward to that time heheh.

Yeah, it's Greg. I don't know how much time he has to work with people for hosting yet so didn't want to promote it too much until he was ready, but he can set you up a pretty good deal as far as dedicated goes. He is also scalable and can work with you to make sure you have enough resources for your needs.
plesk 8? No freakin clue lol. Just quoted it from Greg when I was talking with him. I assume it is just the next version of plesk though ;). I have never used plesk before this but, it's just another control panel software something like cpanel. Supposedly a lot of people really like it but I have always only used cpanel and still haven't checked out my plesk much yet. But I am sure it is nice heheh.

Dont every do anything with godaddy. They are the king of overselling their servers. If you want to have the slowest site then I'd go there but that would be the only reason.

Let me clarify a little, I do all my domains through them so they are ok for that, but that's it in my book.
I used them when I first started, then switched to a different host. The speed of my site increased over 400%.

I'm currently using bluehost and have not had a problem with them. I started with hostgator but the site got to big and had to get a host with more bandwidth. shame to because hostgator was a great company and the servers were the fastest I've ever had. I've also heard good things about siteground but look at DP for a ton of answers to questions about hosts.

That $60 server isnt fast enough to handle a site with good traffic. It may be good to start out with though. You will also have to pay for server management unless you can manage your own server cause all their servers are unmanaged.
I have 2 with LT and they cost me $200+ per month each but they can handle massive connections at once with no slow down.

Walked away filthy rich thanks to google, Youtube itself never made an operating profit, they were losing $500 000 a month because of bandwidth cost.
But I doubt Google will come in for our msrs sites, so we have to deal with the cost/profit/risk equation and it is far from being as strait forward as it seems....

I dont thing good ever was "loosing" money,
they had 67 staff, they had investors who put in many millions,
you know when the two founders sold youtube, the original investors who put in over 11 million get a 33% cut of the 1.65 billion, Nice investment.

I have 3 myspace sites. In total I am serving about 750,000 pageviews per day. Count an average of 8 images per page and you will see how bandwidth quickly adds up...
Yeah, I am earning enough to cover my server... but you know how it is, no matter whta you earn, you always want more, hehe
I am going to add a cpm skyscraper on the sites, that should bring in a nice chunck of fresh cash to cover any future bandwidth needs

Look into LayeredTechs Servers and then PlatinumServerManagement to manage it.
