If i changed the file name of my images, and the user is still hotlinked to my site, will that break the link or will it not affect the image?
I can't think :s

yes it will. you can use temporary .htaccess redirects if you need to, though

If somebody is hotlinking in order to take advantage of you, you can put up a very nasty image with same file name ;)
If the user does not have such ill intent, you could replace the image with something that advertises your site.
I know, I have a bit of an evil streak lol.

lol yea i did that on one of my sites so anyone outside of myspace, friendster, hi5, IMVU, and myyearbook.com that tried to hotlink to my images would get a picture of a girl with leeches all over her face and some text telling people where to find the actual image at :P
