Why exchange links and then remove a link without telling the owner ?
Fair enough if no-one is visiting from the other site but at least have the decency to tell them you are removing their link so they can remove yours as well.

most webmasters do it to try to get one way links or to steal traffic.....but people that do that stuff on the net are generally remembered by the webmaster community and will find it harder to get link exchanges over time if they keep it up......gotta love karma

i dont do that. and i hate when it happens. when i had a partner working with my on my site, he used to always randomly remove links, i would get so pissed. so i told him off, and fired him :P

I've had a couple of people here do that to me. =\ I've not bothered to ask them about it; they'll probably blame it on their best friend's mum's aunty second cousin's pet bunny who removed my links.
I definitely will not be bothering to link to any of their sites anymore.

Same here. It's only ones from here that have done it to me so far and it sucks.
I know i'm not sending many visitors at the moment but i'm still a human being with feelings for crying out loud LOL
Ok rant over ROFL

I just have made it part of my regular administrative task to have to go out periodically and verify link backs. I shouldn't have to take the time to do this, but not everyone acts ethical in a business environment.
Don't even get me started ranting on the business ethics of others. *growl*

I was thinking the exact same thing! It's rude. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

What if you had done a 3 way link, not a direct trade? How can you keep track of all of those and you may end up removing a link that is still linking in to you from another site???

I haven't done any three way links so it's not that.
I guess they could have removed me by mistake *shrugs*

I wrote a script to track it for me. If a couple days go by without any hits from a site. I go check to see that there is a link back. If not, I contact the owner and ask if they were aware that my link had been removed. If no response, I remove there link.
It sucks and it's time consuming. But I'd rather take the time to catch unethical webmasters, who are trying to artificially boost there rank.
I'm gonna start keeping a list of domains that pull this stunt.

i contact before removing a link. and havent removed any links yet. like ive said though, dont get a partner to take over the link exchanges, they usually dont do good. my partner took off the links he didnt like. so yeah, if your link was on my site, please PM me so i can readd it.
