ok heres a questions say alot of poeple are going for a certain keyword say its getting 20-30k hits a day why would google favour a site for this keywords and basically lock it into the top position and give it 60% traffic for this keyword.
I think its very unfair, why does google do this?
Do you have to know people at google who do the favoured thing in search engines?

Inbound links with hyperlinked keyword text are one of the most important factors to ranking a site for the desired keywords. It is one of Google's ways of measuring the "importance" of a page in relation to that word or phrase.
A site that was established 4 years ago has the benefit of 4 years of link cultivation. A site that was established 4 months ago has a lot of catching up to do.
Tough luck, yes. Unfair, not necessarily.

Getting off toppic a bit, and early in the thread but thats where Google are stuffing up, I'm sick of searching for stuff and finding the top results are years out of date.
A four month old site usually has much more relevant results than a site thats over a year old ..... except for those bloody made for Adsense sites but thats another topic in itself.

Well that's the way it is. Right or wrong, good or bad, fair or unfair.... that is just the way it is. That is the way Google does things. What can you or I do about it? We can create our own search engine if we feel like taking on Google LOL.

Create your own search. I suggest we build a Google CSE and push our own sites. What do you say?
check out my raw version of this idea www.search-layouts.com

that sounds like a cool idea there nycborn, a search engine that only lists resource sites for all the social networks :)

I was going to keep it to myself but I'm sure it would have gotten out of the bag eventually. The great thing about Google CSE is you can decide what sites are included in the search results. You can't decide SERP position but lets say Site A is ranking 1-5 for a good keyword you could just not include Site A in your search.
Wanna get a MSP Search going? We can include only the owners here and have us send traffic to the search site. We can make the site by committee or something.
Forget trying to rank above millions of sites...just redo a CSE with limited sites.

Too many of the sites are generic, thats the major problem. That and no one SEO's their sites. People using asp, and php, all automatic doesn't work well.

When I first came to this forum back in December there were very few of the members here doing SEO on their sites.....I swear there was like myself and 3 other people it seemed like. Most of the members did not know how to begin doing SEO work on their sites....Seems to me though that after constantly posting and stressing the importance of SEO alot of members here are now doing SEO in at least some capacity on their myspace sites.

Ever notice all the top positions don't use out of the box solutions, it's called original content.
Original content, anchor text, inbound links, and alt tags tend to bump you up quick.
I suggest if you use MSRS or anything similar add text, and lots of text, but be careful of density, the scripts are great scripts, but need a bit of text to make them stand out to google.
Too many people buy the scripts, add layouts and expect to get high ranks without much effort. Most sites out there are atleast 35% similar to each other.

yup i always customize my scripts and add header tags, text in the body, and text in the footer and always try to make it as dynamic as possible so that it is not the same thing repeated on every page
