View Full Version : Background Dimensions?

I designed my own background for my current profile at www.myspace.com/bngbattalion

It was kind of just trial and error in getting it aligned correctly. I used 1024x768 which I think is the general viewing res most people are on these days. I use 1280x1024 so I had to fool around with it to make it viewable in both resolutions that I was satisfied with.

I guess my question is when designing backgrounds for myspace, is 1024x768 the general size I should design for or is there a different size to use as a guideline?

That's a great profile.

If it's a background image like the one you have now, you'll want to center the background image horizontally and align it to the top vertically. I tend to make background images blend into the background color, so there's no blocky borders.

I vew at 1920x1200, so I'm not the best judge what screen resolution people use. But in my referrers on my myspace sites, I would say that most people use 1024x768 with 1280x1024 following behind.

Thanks for the compliment greg and the reply! I'll use that alignment as my guide and work my designs around that along with making them blend and/or fade to avoid the block look you mentioned.

Something worth bearing in mind when choosing the background size is that the resolutions are the maximum screen resolutions of the monitor - the actual viewable area is less once you allow for scrollbars, browser toolbars, etc.
