So I bought a server from the planet for about 400 bucks and the server hasnt been working for 2 weeks. All they tell is that they're going to tell an upper level tech to get back with me. I've heard that 5 times counting today. Today they suggested I get an O.S reload hopefully this will fix it. Anybody have problems like this before?

Two weeks? I would have been at my bank to do a chargeback after two days.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Version 4, yeah and there is no excuse I heard alot of people use steadfast or layeredtech so I might go with them if it doesnt work out. I thought theplanet was the best one since so many large sites use it. Hopefull they can fix it I already lost so much money while my site was down so Im trying to be calm and keep my peace but 2 weeks is crazy.

You might check out spry too, i use them and would recommend them to anyone. Been with them over 6 months and have never had a second of downtime

i would contact them and tell them that you have waited long enough and that you are contacting your bank to do a charge back on them......might be enough to get them moving

I actually told them that today, and then they suggested the OS reload and I told them that if its not fixed within a few hours as they said thats how long it takes that I would cancel. So hopefully they will fix it.

wow 2 weeks, thats uncalled for. Something like that will pretty much throw your SE rankings to crap.

Tell them to gft - that's inexcusable.

yeah Im getting frustrated, so you guys think its better to do the chargeback so that I can get the setup fee back as well cuz i know if I ask for a refund they will probably not give me the setup fee back.

You should ask for your money back and move on. Two weeks is totally unacceptable!

i think i posted somewhere about how i had some billing issues with theplanet. two weeks, is really bad. I switched over to steadfast and I'm pretty happy there.

Theplanet sucks, I always had problems with their servers. They also charge way to much for their servers. It's funny, they're so arrogant, a sales rep on their side was saying that "they're like the Cadillac of Hosting. "

I wouldn't have let it get that far. After 2-3 days, I would restore a backup on a new server from a different company.

Yes, make a chargeback. You have paid for a service and you aren't getting it, depite your best efforts to resolve the situation.

Ok so here is the update. I called my bank and they told me that I couldnt do a chargeback they say I gave them permission to take the funds out since I used my debit card to purchase it. They said that I would have to cancel my entire account so they couldnt take anymore. Than the last time I called ThePlanet they said as a last straw they were gonna do an OS reload and usually they charge 25 bucks. The guy said the fee would be waived since I've never had service. Then they not only charged me but they charged me 40 bucks. So I cancelled and left a ticket for my refund. Havent heard anything back yet so we'll see whats gonna happen next. This sucks big time especially since I moved my site back to my last host but it cant handle it so the site keeps on crashing. grrrrrrr

Your bank sucks. Sure, you initially 'gave the vendor permission'. But at any time you can also tell the bank that the bank does not have permission to allow that vendor to draft from your account any more.

Get an account at huntington.com - they are in Ohio but you can sign up online from anywhere in the U.S. This bank will not jerk you around, and they won't let anybody else jerk you around like that.
