They say they'll configure a newly setup server for use.
http://www.platinumservermanagement.com/
On their main page under System Security, Optimization and Hardening they mention a whole bunch of things they can do.
Which of those are important? Which have no real benefit?
What else should I make them do at the start... and periodically to make sure my server stays nicely optimized?
Any other general server tips will also be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

PSM is awesome...go with them you wont regret it...just tell them you would like your server hardened and optimized...tell them you want the works..they will take care of ya.

They pretty much do them all in a matter or hours. It's their standard setup.
The only think I'd make sure they do is tell them it's for a high loaded website and to raise the connection levels to the top otherwise they'll leave them at the defaults.

ok. Thanks :)
I have 3 shared hosting accounts at the moment haha. They all expire at around the same time. Will be nice to have it all in one place soon.

Server monitoring is important, if your server crashes, they will contact your server datacenter and request a reboot.
And they can setup backups.

i have looked at them before as well and they seemed pretty good, compared to what they offer would it be better to go with an unmanaged server and use them or just go with a managed server setup from a company like wiredtree

PSM is good if you have small sites that dont take alot to manage. If you grow to a certain stage PSM will no longer be able to handle your needs as they only do certain things.
I started out with them and they are GREAT. I really missed having to leave them but I needed people who could deal with all my issues and not just most of them.
Ethan and John over there are the Bomb and are good. I would suggest anyone to start out with them as they take care of all your needs. Once you get on a bigger stage you will have to move on though.

Yeah I can imagine. If my sites get to that stage I'm sure I'll be making enough money off them to be able to afford better management.

Wondering how much you guys pay to PSM per server - hardening and all. Also, the ones who aren't using PSM, how much do you pay others?
