just as I finally finished downloading my 4.2 GB website off of dreamhost ftp to upload to my new dedicated server. Dreamhost disabled my account... hopefully I can still access ftp to get my other sites off there server. I cant check right now because I am not at home and dont have ftp here. bastards, I have only uploaded about 1.2GB out of 4.2GB to my new server so far. so it looks like I am going to have a little downtime. :censored:

check my email and this is what I got from them LOL

Hello,

I did some of my own investigating to help you out and it seems like the
usage is mostly from myspacegeek.net and arcadehole.com. I am checking
our logs right now to see if I can provide you with the heaviest
processes but it seems like you are basically running dedicated
server-type usage on a shared account which isn't really going to work
(you can't use up a quarter of a server that you are supposed to be
sharing with other users).

Oh I also found another proxy that you didn't remove after we already
told you this was a violation of our terms of service (url1.net) so your
account is disabled.

Thanks!

John

url1.net - is a "URL Shortening" website, I did not know that was considered a proxy.

All of those hosts that do extreme overselling are bad news. All you can do is host large amounts of photos or something because the minute you start using any CPU power they boot you.

Maybe dreamhost has been reading this forum? Hopefully you had everything backed up.

That policy seems very heavy-handed. At my old shared host, Bluehost, when I exceeded CPU quota they didn't terminate my acct. Instead my site went down for about 2 min. and all the pages were temporarily replaced by an ugly green screen that said "CPU QUOTA EXCEEDED."

When I started getting these every day, I knew it was time to move on.

I would contact them and demand to at least give you FTP access.

well right now ftp and mysql are blocked, so I cant get my files or databases. Gonna keep emailing them. I've been with them since november 2005. the least they could do is let me get my files and databases.

I would never deal with a hosting company that wouldn't let me download my files so I could migrate. Totally lame.

after about 5 emails I finally got them to give me access to my files and databases. But yea after I get everything, I am completely done with them.

Glad you got your files back! :)

Update.....

Bluehost just pulled the plug on me without warning yesterday. They are giving me 48 hrs of FTP access to get my files out of there.

Well once the project takes we might all have to get dedicated servers :P

thats kinda stiff. But I guess I have about 9GB of files I have to transfer, so it takes a minute.

Once I start bringing in some significant income from my sites I'm going to move to a VPS. Right now I'm nowhere near causing too much strain on the server to get booted.

Butt I hate dreamhost. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm basically dead broke right now, and the fact that I don't need one yet, I'd have moved to a VPS awhile ago.
