well my resource site has been with dreamhost since its birth over a year ago.

I have heard before the saying that the faster your website is , the more money you make... I'm going to move the site over to the dedicated regardless but was just wondering if that saying was true..

this dedicated server is lightning fast, its nuts!

Never heard of that.

It may be that a dedicated server is faster and all yours and therefor can handle more of a server load allwing your users to exhaust more resources and making the pages load faster, maybe from that angle you may not lose as many users x'ing out due to slow loading pages but other than that... I can't think of anything.

It would just stop people exiting from a slow loading server, and having more chances to view the ads, and of course click the ads. And if its fast enough and they like what they see, they'll go through more pages on the website.

I'd say there is some truth to that. If a site loads slow for me, I don't go deep or stay very long. If the site is fast, I'd probably look at more pages. So faster is good for CPM and the more pages I view the more chances I have to click on a CPC ad.

yea I cant believe how much faster one of my sites loads now that I transfered it from dreamhost to my dedicated, about 90% faster site now.

Keep in mind that if you are using affiliate ads etc, the load time will only be a fast as the slowest server than an ad is called from.

I have only found that this is true in some cases because people are really turned off by extremely slow sites. I know of one site that easily doubled, if not tripled, it's traffic because they got onto a faster server.

Word gets out that you are slow, and on myspace people can see your stuff loads slow. So why visit, just to become frustrated? A faster server is a good choice and can help to increase your traffic. Even more so if part of the reason your counts have been down is because users have gotten a "server is to busy" page, denying services.

Yea I know, I am surprised myself. but I guess since all my layout images are hosted at photobucket that helps with server load. although alot of people are using my flash countdown which is hosted onsite so... yea

but the thing with dream hosts is I have had serious downtime , just lastweek my site was down for 13 hours due to a http config error that popped up out of the blue.

Let's use the process of elimination:

A: faster server = less money
B: faster server = same amount of money
C: faster server = more money

It can't be A...
The chances of it being B are one in a million...
so we are left with C.

The question isn't if you will make more money, the question is how MUCH more money.

With a faster server your site is able to handle more traffic and to process the traffic your site is currently recieving faster which means users will generally get faster page loads and will not jump off your site from slow page loads.....But if the extra amount that you earn is not enough to offset the costs of having the faster server then you are either loosing money or just breaking even...

P.S. to my post:

More money = more Total Revenue NOT profit. That's a different question.

It will only increase your revenue if you were losing heaps of page views because your site was too slow, otherwise it won't make any difference
