As many members here know MySpace started doing redirects on all comments left on MySpace Pages. As you also know the Server these redirects are running through cant handle the traffic and many of the people trying to get to your site get a 503 error.
If that isn't enough MySpace has began telling members that the msplinks.com url is a hacker code that is in the comment itself but in reality its a redirect they themselves set up.
I personally have had 8 people message me on MySpace and tell me this is what MySpace has told them and they are PISSED in that message to me till I explain to them that msplinks.com is a redirect MySpace itself made.
If we email them one by one all saying different things we wont carry much weight at all but if we MASS email them with all the same C&P email I think we can make some things happen.
This redirect isn't just hurting Comment Sites but its doing damage on all sites.
If we let this go by and not try to be heard then things will only get worse and it seems MySpace itself has forgotten who made them what they are today.......WE DID IT FOR THEM and without us they will totally dry up. Below you will find the email that I request ALL MEMBERS to send to MySpace. Just change the Name and the site you own.
I have talked to Greg and he has agreed to do a MASS email with this link in that email as to get more members to send out this email to MySpace.

================================================== =======
Title:MSPLINKS.COM Redirect
To Whom it may Concern:
My name is (Your Name) and I am the owner of (Your Site) and am a member of SNRSOA (Social Network Resource Site Owners Association) over the past week we have noticed you have been putting a redirect on ALL of our sites Comment URLs. We as a Group have also noticed that the server that these Redirects are going through can't handle the traffic that these backlinks are generating thus causing many of the people to get a 503 error page.
Also we are getting messages from members saying YOUR REPS are telling them that the msplinks.com URL that YOU created is a hacking code and that they need to delete all comments that have that URL in it.
This problem can be solved very easily by educating your Customer Service Reps about what that URL is and what it does. We as a GROUP do not appreciate having members message us claiming we hacked their account ect...
We request that you take the redirect off all our links as we are the GOOD guys and we have no codes that hack anything. They are just comments and they just go back to our sites when clicked on. They don't go to any fake login page and there is NO Embedded code in them. We as a GROUP report SPAM and Hacked pages to MySpace and in no way affiliate ourselves to this type of activity.
Its good that you are going after the SPAMMERS but don't take down the innocent in the process.
We as site owners are emailing you first to give you the chance to fix this issue. We don't want to post this on all of our sites and have the members themselves email you but will do so if we cant come to some sort of agreement on this issue.
We as a Group await your response.
Sincerely
(Your Name)

I sent my email. I also added to the end of it that coming up with some sort of mutual regulation would be a better idea instead of blocking or stopping codes (such as corner tags) altogether. I also mentioned that without us (the site owners) the user's site and comments would be boring and that we contribute a lot to their traffic.

Maybe say "MySpace Resource Site Owners Association"
Social Networking makes it sound too general and one of the reasons MySpace are doing this is because too many Resource sites are promototing other Social Networks (MySpace's direct competitors).....
EG - Complaining to MySpace when you heavily promote EX: CherryTap/FaceBook is like complaining to Coca Cola when you are heavily promoting Pepsi Max all over your Pepsi domain website...It's bad for business for them...It's driving "Traffic intended for them" to other sources and EVEN WORSE, making it appear they are promoting and condoneing the use of their leading competitor.
HOWEVER: :P
I think this is a good idea if it is edited how I suggested and it's sent from people who "mostly" promote at MySpace's market...
You should have control over MySpace as it's designers who made MySpace what it is today (ALTHOUGH IT WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE WHERE IT IS TODAY EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T ALLOW ANY HTML ETC because of their power of the media, news, tv programmes etc....Easy to influence through cross-promotion when you have the kind of financial and influential power of NewsCorp.)
But in the current position it is in NOW, we SHOULD have power and say in their "customization and HTML/CSS related decisions"....And this is one of them.

With MySpace going after anyone that uses the WORD MySpace the last thing we want to do is call ourselves MySpace Resource Site Owners Association for something like this. We also want them to know that we do have choices beyond them. I corrected the MSLINKS thing to MSPKINKS in the letter above also.
We all need to stay on the same sheet of music here though if we start doing our own things then I would say the end could be near with MySpace.

Well the drop in traffic really depends on the traffic you had before. On Friday before all this took place I had 115K Uniques and by the way of things now I might break 100k before midnight. But Im not so much worried about the traffic drop as I am the Customer service Reps saying the link they put in place is a virus which leads people to think ALL of our sites are carrying a virus of some sort.

Would it also help to write a public letter/news thing from the snrsoa and then digg the life out of it etc.
IMO private emails form individual site owners won't cut any mustard with Myspace (could be wrong).
I bet they hate bad publicity though :)
I have a feeling that Myspace resource sites will be a thing of the past quite soon anyway.
Sorry to sound so negative but why should Myspace let resource site owners take millions of $$$ between them when they could be getting that revenue themselves.
I also notice that someone has regged snrsoa.com yesterday :)
Nice one (if it was one of us that is!)

This is now a MySpace Announcement, from myspace:
Hey everybody, we just launched another program to stop dirty spammers from hasseling you. When you input a link in myspace it may be converted to a redirect link. You'll start seeing them around the site. They look like this: msplinks.com/adf9sd9f. These links are legit and we are creating them. They are not viruses or whatever else your conspiracy theorist friends told you. They still point to their original url, but let us easily turn off links to spam, phishing, or virus sites. booyah!

Well Nicole a member here has PMed me saying she would design the site if I wanted her to so that is cool I have PMed her back and asked for specifics on what she needed done to begin with that.
I think we need some examples of Logos we can display on approved sites so any designers or member that want to give it a shot you can post them here. I think we need the it to say SNRSOA Approved on it somewhere and whatever else you guys feel would make a BOLD Statement. There will be a backlink back to the SNRSOA site where your site will be listed as a safe site ect and then maybe alittle about your site. That would be cool. We need a script or template of some sort that will make this easy to work with ect.
Throw some ideas around and we will try to make this happen. I will put the site up on one of my servers once we get some good input and some type of script to use to do this.

While i am not a designer I think a round logo with a transparent background would be good and would match everyones sites, also if the designer could make a light colored version and a dark colored version since some of us have sites with dark backgrounds and some have sites with white backgrounds..........

The more people that see how easy it is to run a myspace site and want to learn more the more competition for us all. Since myspace is basically killing SEO it is really going to make the battles in the serps brutal. Last thing we're going to need is a sudden onslaught of thousands of turnkey clones running the 250MB script or that other free script to make it even worse.

I'm going to have to say I agree.
However the badge would obviously not link here but rather to a landing page that explains what the badge means.
At least that is my understanding anyway.

Yeah I wouldnt want just plain users showing up here even though we do have one venture here time and time again but not that often. Once the badge is made people can put it up with no link in it and when the landing page is finished it can link to that.
There will be no money made from any of this it will just be a VOICE of owners. And if Gregs new **** gives us any trouble we have his DIRECT number to ***** at him......LOL

i say that we just make it low key on our page...we dont need a HUGE SNRSOA seal on our page plastered everywhere. I just think that other site owners who visit our pages will know what the seal means and knows that we are part of something that brings us owners together should somethiing threaten the business we have.
I don't think we need to be very detailed in the description on the official website, you could make the intro page just a brief summary, and possibly make it so you have to register as a member to view the rest?? just a thought.

well you dont have to display a badge at all if you dont want to its all user preference but will the way myspace has been lately claiming that all our sites are infected with viruses, spyware and what not..........

I don't think emails will reach the right person.
The best tactic would be to come up with a letter that most agree on.
Then, the site owners individually send the letter via FedEx overnight to the appropriate person at either the myspace offices or Fox Interactive.

But the letters already did reach the 'right person', and they've already cleared the air. Myspace told it's users, it was NOT us, and was infact, myspace doing that. :)

I was thinking for the logo, something like a stamp?
I would attempt to make something in photoshop but that's more of an illustrator job (which I don't currently have access to, unfortunately).
Those logos look really great though, just maybe a bit too formal as Greg said.

Here is my logo idea. It is kind of big but can be resized. Wanted to show it on a couple of different color options! Probably not the best out there, but just my shot at it! :)

keep in mind im displaying the layout of the seal, the letters themselves probably need adjusting cuz they dont look like how i want them. but you get the idea basically.
edit//i think these suck. i will try again

Myspace didnt say it was a hacker code dude >.> I read it. They said the links would be different to help prevent hackers, but they were safe. It was a headerwide message from Tom.
Anyway, I don't think this'll do anything, but annoy them. After all, why would it be THEIR concern, that WE'RE missing out on money? Why should they care?

this thread was setup before the message from tom was posted. all the discussion on this pretty much ended after that. we're just coming up with seals now for the snrsoa that was formed

Maybe you should read this entire thread and you would see why Tom even put that message up to begin with.
