View Full Version : Check Your PR

minnseoelite

I know there are some people here that might be interested in checking to see if their sites PR is updating. It should be under full swing within the next week or two as it has been confirmed by some well established webmasters that some sites have started recieving there new PR.

Here are two of the most popular tools

http://www.digpagerank.com

http://livepr.raketforskning.com (temporarily not connecting to DC's)

And yes I made this thread just for Fryman :P

well its just starting only a few sites that I have heard of have been updated....if its like the last update it will take a month before a majority of sites get their new PR value

If I put in my site and they all say pr4, does that mean no changes are going to be coming for me

no these check your PR at the datacenter and will show whatever your sites PR is at the time you check it whether its the original value still or the new value...just stop in and check it every few days and if you don't see any changes by mid May then there is a good chance your site got the PR shaft from Google

hmm i have the google toolbar, with firefox, that shows a PR, is that showing the same thing? or will these update differently

No not the same, the toolbar PR shows the PR value of your site from the last PR export and is always 1 - 3 months old.....the two datacenter checkers that I listed quarry the Google datacenters directly and retrieve the "real time" PR value of a domain.

I just got all excited, then noticed i was looking at the alexa rank and not the pagerank seeing as they're right next to each other with the firefox searchstatus addon.
ahh still PR1. i would be a PR3 still if it wasn't for my stupid host going down a couple of months ago, ahh.

If I learned anything at all from MySpace sites it is that PR is worth nothing... it is all about traffic and that what you need to worry about..

That's pretty much true on all sites, unless you are strictly selling links based on juice.

PR isn't useless. Everyone who says that is looking at it the wrong way. Higher PR means you can trade links or get links from higher PR sites.

That's not what PR means, it may help, but not always relevant. PR is but one small piece of the puzzle google uses to figure their SERPs.

Besides, any visible PR is outdated the moment you see it anyway. The real PR, which cannot be seen, is updated regularly and subject to big swings.

minnseoelite
April 23rd, 2007, 01:36 PM
PR is still valuable to about 80% of all webmasters and aside from any part in rankings it has other values as well.

1. Higher PR means more money from link sales
2. Higher PR means more money when you sell your domain
3. Higher PR can be used as a bargaining tool to get links from sites with higher traffic but lower PR than yours which is important to myspace sites
4. Higher PR means your site has a better trustrank with Google

4. Higher PR means your site has a better trustrank with Google

Where did you get that percentage? lol

I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just saying that it's an arbitrary figure and to each his own. I sell links and I mention PR, because it does matter to some, but to me it doesn't because my real money has nothing to do with PR, but traffic. I have low pr sites with big traffic numbers.

As for PR meaning better trustrank, where has google ever said that? I believe PR and trustrank are like apples and oranges. ;)

That was just a guess from how many members i see on webmaster forums concerned with PR....and have you ever tried to get link exchanges in other niches with a PR0 site?

As for the trustrank the way i see it is a sites PR increases as long as you have good incoming PR links and generally sites with high PR also rank higher in G cause they are doing something right that Google likes and gives more trust to....this is just my opinion

Pagerank prediction tools are a marketing ploy, they are usually wrong because they take into account links indexed by Yahoo not Google since Google tends to keep the exact amount of links it has for a site a secret.

I'm confused, all the PR sites i've been to, say my site is now a PR3 - but the google toolbar says it's only a PR1... anyone?

toolbar updates are slower than the live datacenter updates.

PR is only based off incoming links on sites which can be crawled so redirects will not help. Basically to get the most possible link juice from a link get links on PR3+ sites that have fewer than 25 outgoing links

It will update again in around 3 months so if you build those links a PR4 is actually pretty easy to get.....Just pay someone $15 - $20 to do 200 - 300 directory submissions to SEO friendly directories.......lots of people on Digital Point offer this service

Probably just temperary as PR has no real bearing on SERPS...Google dropped my site for my 4 main keywords for about 3 days this week and then they suddenly all came back some even better than before

Sorry to sway this off topic, but I hope that's true and the same happens to me as it did you. I was researching and found it has happened to others but they've not returned for months for no real reason?

yeah, i experienced the same thing. Google has been shuffling one of my sites for the last month... i got my ranking back twice but it just got dropped lower the next day.
