Opterons outperform ya know =p

That depends totally on the setup. Don't let tag words made up by tech companies turn you into a mindless advertising agent for them ;)

Example, a Xeon 2 x 3.0GHz would outperform even a Dual Opteron 2 x 246.

Also I forgot to mention Im looking for the cheapest MANAGED Xeons or even Opterons.

Softlayer has a good deal on unmanaged. Can't say anything about managed though.

www.misdivision.com has great XEON servers that ARE managed. I highly recommend them to all my webmaster buddies

I cannot recommend anything managed. But you can get great hardware and bandwidth thru layeredtech and then get a third party server management firm.

What's expensive about it? LayeredTech is dirt cheap and there are a few decent server management companies that offer a ~$30/mo plan.

I wouldn't go with LayeredTech, though.

id rather go all in one with misdivision. why deal with two companies..when you can have one company handle it all for a Great price.

I'm just giving suggestions. Layeredtech is a very good company. Much better reviews and prices then server matrix and the other planet resellers. I've never heard of Misdivision because I manage my own servers.

I have a few servers places and I think softlayer is awesome. Every ticket I submit is replied to within 3-4 minutes at most. I just submitted one about 10 minutes ago and it was replied to within 1 minute. I'm not sure about managed, but check this from their control panel:

titled:

server administration: $3.00

SoftLayer Engineers are available for server
administration services. The cost is $3 per ticket and
each ticket is limited to one install, issue, or question.
Ticket fees are added to your account and billed on your
next monthly billing cycle.

* Kernel Upgrades / Windows Update
* PHP / Perl Installation & Configuration
* Control Panel Configurations and Setup
* Apache Installations & Module Installations
* General Backup and Migration Assistance
* Software Installation
* More Services

You could pay them to setup what you need and be done with it and not have to pay for the managed stuff all the time. just pay the $3 when you need something done. I really like softlayer..

I used to only consider Intel Xeon CPUs for my hosting servers but recently opened my eyes to the world of Opterons. I have been pretty impressed thus far.

Softlayer, layeredtech, ev1, servermatrix are all great.

My 2cents...

I would have to disagree with the Ev1 suggestion, been there and done that. I went through a lot of host until I found one that I really really liked. Steadfast has been the best priced and by far has the best customer service in my opinion.

I'm going to disagree with the EV1 suggestion as well. Horrid customer service.

It varies from person to person. In general TP/EV1 are not doing so well with customer relations. With that being said we orderded a box from them last night and it was delivered this morning. I can't really complain about that - it wasn't rapid delivery either.

Take a look at FDCservers.net if you're in need of serious BW. Their dedicated bw plans, datacenter, and customer support is more then decent! So far my provider of choice is Layeredtech, for good hardware and heavy bandwidth i'd say orangefiber aka alphared and FDC are pretty good. I only go with providers that support FreeBSD as that is my OS of choice.
