Does google give you better rankings if you are on a dedicated/VPS? like do they reconise that you are on a shared server and give you less credibility?

If some spammer were to set up a network of 100 junk sites on the same shared server as your website, it could possibly hurt your Google rankings. Some webmasters have reported this in various forums.
So if you had a dedicated IP address, the search engines would not associate your IP with anything spammy unless you created spammy websites yourself.
I don't think having shared hosting is in itself bad for Google rankings. There are plenty of sites on shared hosting with top ten Google rankings for their keywords.
If shared hosting is meeting your needs, then what you might consider is asking the hosting provider for a dedicated IP address. This will add a few dollars to your monthly shared hosting costs.

looks like my host offers this at $47.40 a year
Adding unique IP address to domain.net:
Unique IPs are needed to:
# Have a secure site (https).
# Run an anonymous ftp server.
# Access your site at http://###.###.###.###/
(not recommended because your unique IP could change!)
Payment:
We'll tell you the IP address on the next page.

Unique Class C Ip really affects Search Engine Ranking.. But i don't think Dedicated or VPS affects SERPS. it just help you to stabilize and maintain your site online every time cause downtime on your site can affect SERP also.
