So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good site map generators that will generate nice html sitemaps.
Also, what are the rules about how many links you can have on on the sitemap page? i have read you shouldn't have more than 100, but I have like 1000+ links :/ Does it matter?

The Google webmaster guidelines page at http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769 recommends no more than 100 links per page.
Are you creating this sitemap for human users or for Google?
If you want to create a sitemap for Google, there are free sitepmap generators that spider your site and then output the xml file.
If you are creating this for humans, it might be easier to somehow integrate this into using your navigation, category pages, and a search function. You can use the Google Adsense search on your site if you're running Adsense.
To ensure that your latest stuff gets spidered by the search engines, you can place it at the home page or front of the category page.

just for google. i was using an xml one and uploading it to google.com/webmasters, everyone has these theories that, that does more harm than good for your rankings. So I thought I'd just make an html one and stick it in the footer and see wha that does... too many conflicting theories bleh..
well i'll try the xml one one rob mentioned too. thanks.

It has the option to automatically notify Google of your new sitemap too everytime its generated... we've been using it and its helped get all our pages indexed and haven't noticed any ranking problems..
