View Full Version : Seven ideal characteristics of a website/webpage

The following order listed is in no way a reflection of how search engines rank your site. However, your website should aim for these ideals.

1) Relevance

Is the content of the webpage relevant?
Is the content of the website relevant?
Is the content on the pages that link to your webpage relevant?
Can the search engines easily figure out what the webpage is about by reading the title and text on the page?

2) Trustworthiness

Is your site mentioned by trustworthy sites?
Are the sites you link to trustworthy?

3) Uniqueness

Is the content on your webpage unique?
Is the content on your website unique?

4) Community

Are other related sites mentioning your website?
Are users clicking your website in the search results?
Are users spending time and navigating throughout your website?
Are users putting your site into their bookmarks?
Are users returning to your site?

5) Freshness

How often is your webpage updated?
How often are related webpages on your site updated?
How often does your site get backlinks?

6) Naturalness

Are your backlinks growing in a natural or artificial manner?
Are you doing anything artificial or obvious to increase the relevance of your webpage/website?

7) Crawlability

Can your site be reached via an external link that is visited by the search engines?
Can all webpages on your site be reached by links from the homepage?
How many links does it take to go from your homepage to a particular webpage?

great list couldn't have said it any better myself........unfortunately my kid has been keeping me to busy lately to post some helpful hints myself

That's a good list

If you are talking about webdesigns in general, I would add

accessibility (for people with sight difficultites etc)
navigation - a site should be easy to get around

this point is kind of listed in "Crawlability"

but yes these factors are all of whcih help you increase your rankings.

my sites seem to get indexed just fine....most intersitials are triggered by clicking on a link and as far as i know search engine spiders do not trigger "on click" events which is what triggers those
