I have noticed I seem to get most of my traffic from google for my layouts when they are still featured on my frontpage.
for example, i have a "New Myspace Layouts" Box and let say I add "whatever myspace layout". well then google ranks me on the firstpage of the results for that keyword. is this normal? I am not complaining about that or anything but I rarely see my myspacelayouts/browse/download/whatever-myspace-layout.php bring in the traffic, only see that here and there so it seems like google ranks me better for the keywords when they are on the frontpage of my website...

yes thats very normal...google loves fresh content...ie if google spiders your page and it has updated content from the last crawl..you earn points with google..this shows google that the site is being cared for and updated..not just slapped together with the same old content

Google picks up a lot of keywords that i type in the news section. i.e. i post an update about adding more quote graphics, and google picks it up the next day and I get indexed in the first 3 pages or so. I don't really think it is from the actual layouts you are uploading, since google doesn't care about images. It's just from the little text you have under each thumb... i.e. patterned layouts. Probably a good idea if you link from your news to your layouts/categories.

Getting your home page indexed for keywords while not getting sub pages to rank well is something that most all webmasters have issues with. There are 2 main reasons for this.
1. Home pages generally update more while sub pages tend to be forgotten and go stale.
2. When most webmasters build links they tend to always link to the home page and neglect their sub pages
The easiest way to get sub pages to rank is to build some links to some of your sub pages to get them more "votes"

I know people say PR doesn't matter but could it be that your front page has a higher PR than your inner pages and most backlinks are to your frontpage?

thats exactly why front pages have higher PR....more links to them as PR is based on nothing but the amount of links to a page and the PR of those links
