I got an email from my host (Surpass  ) the other day, saying that images in a folder were getting too many HTTP connections or something and that they'd had to suspend my account...
I emailed them back saying I'd delete the folder causing problems when they unsuspend my account.

I got online the next day, site's unsuspended but no email back from them. I deleted the folder (well, actually I renamed it).

I just checked my emails again and got this response:
Carlee,

I am sorry for the delayed response. It may not be necessary for you to delete anything. This may have been simply a spike in traffic to your account. I have unsuspended your account. We will continue to monitor your account for a time to see if you are having any more resource issues. If traffic continues to be high, you may have outgrown a shared hosting environment. In this case you may need to consider dedicated server options.

The site is actually my blog...I don't know how many unique visitors I get on that site a day but it's really not much, I'm guessing less than 500...
I'm only with Surpass now because I had the same problem when I was with another hosting company (Reseller / Hosting Zoom).

I'm finding it kind of difficult to believe that I've outgrown shared hosting when there are members here with a lot more visitors than I get and are still on shared hosting...

I was expecting a "resource abuse" message within a year of being on Surpass but I'd have thought it would have something to do with me kicking MySQL too much, lol. :P

I think they might be trying to get more money from me. =\

Do you host alot of images? Do you have hotlinking protection? It's possible someone is just abusing your site's resources. Do you use a stats program to see how much traffic and where it is coming from?

Yeah, I host a lot of images on there but the images are a part of my site - they're not the sort of images people would put on their profiles, lol...
I can't use hotlink protection. I'm using Wordpress which has well and truly effed up my .htaccess options...my site doesn't work properly in IE and the only reason I can think of is Wordpress's .htaccess (which is in the root directory of my site).
I have stat programmes installed already (Awstats and Webalizer) but I don't use them for anything other than looking at the keywords people use to get to my site. ;) Most of my traffic comes from other sites linking to mine.

do the photobucket route and save ur bandwidth. use them until they ask you to put a small button of theirs on your site and you will never have to pay for bandwidth and it speeds up your site.

I just shoved the problematic folder onto photobucket and direct linked off them.
I'm not hosting every single image from my site on my PB account.
