So I log into my myspace account today and as usual I expect to see at least a page of spam of approve comments. Yet to my surprise what do I find 9 pages of stupid approve comment spam from the same 4 PEOPLEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. When is myspace going to make a delete from friends list button on the persons profile. That would be the most amazing feature cuz it would take forever to search for them through the main friendlist. ....rant over

you can block messages, I have the approve comment on, so I get a message in my inbox that lets me approve comments. To block them from commenting I would have to remove them from my friends list. I have a long list so it would take me forever to go through them all to remove them from leaving me spam comments which they may not even know cuz their accounts could be phished or they're spammers with fake accounts. Either way it sucks those messages are crazy 9 pages is ridiculous.

rather than going thru my friends to remove em (ugh) ill go to the spammer's profile and block em from there.

I know myself and alot of my actual friends on there are seeing a wave of those stupid "male growth enhancement pill" spam......several of my friend who are female still get like 5 of them a day lmao

Perhaps its time to use the collective power of us legit webmasters to get some of those URL's blocked by Myspace :D

As much money as myspace makes you would think they would be able to block all these automated comment scripts. It's stupid because if it doesnt stop soon myspace wont be worth a crap if you can't see legit messages through all the spam.
As others have said I just block them from there profile and report them.

If myspace could make reporting and deleting friends simpler, spam could be reduced a lot.

If there was a method of listing lots of myspace ids and sending to myspace, it might have done the trick. But only if myspace was proactive...

These affiliate punks are killing our industry to be frank.

I mean granted what we do can be considered spam too if you want to get technical but we're not OBNOXIOUS like those lames are.

They are the reason myspace is cracking down. They HAVE TO. These spammers have resorted to stealing (phishing) accounts just to spam with and the ads are entirely innappropriate. Millions of spam comment messages about how they got a free iphone or credit card is just un called for.

I'm not defending our industry just because I'm in it. But compared to the affiliate spammers we're saints! All we do is collect friends and leave realistic comments with our graphics letting people know where to get them.

I hope they all get caught. Either way I'm going to start focusing more on hi5 and other networks.

Thats not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

I don't mind bulletin spam, I never read bulletins anyway and we all have the option to open it or not.
But think comment and message spam is going way too far.

They just need to add captchas to messages and comments. But I think the reason they're not doing it yet is because they're collecting data about spammers.

More capchas or daily limits would fix these problems

there is no reason why anyone wuld need to send out morethan 50 comments a day or send more than 50 messages a day

I agree adding a button to delete someone on the message page would be a lot easier. But you can just go to their profile and hit block that also deletes them from your list too.

Don't delete them, it's not those people who are spamming you, it's people who are using their accounts. It will stop happening pretty soon.

I noticed MySpace is filtering flash comments now. I wish they would just do a huge password reset.

pedmic
March 31st, 2007, 02:22 AM
why would they want to stop it?

they get paid by cpm

the more the spammers do this the more content they add to pages and the more the engines crawl and send traffic to these pages

New Message from "Tom"
OK, so I think we've successfully blocked the ability of people to make comments that stick at the top of your comment board.. now's the time to use Safe Mode to delete the old comments that are stuck there.

From your home page, click "edit profile," then click "safe edit mode" in the top right corner of the edit page. next, click the "comments" tab. from here you'll be able to delete the comments individually.

These companies are still phishing people and still spamming comments, but at least they won't block your other comments. next week we're working on better blocking tools.

We started another case (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.goto&_i=f6aef0ed-00af-412a-b535-4f4770f96da7&_u=http%3a%2f%2fwww.redherring.com%2fArticle.aspx% 3fa%3d21820%26hed%3dMySpace%2bSues%2b%25E2%2580%25 98Spam%2bKing%25E2%2580%2599%26sector%3dIndustries %26subsector%3dInternetAndServices) against one of the worst spammers on Friday !

I personally know a lot of spammers... they used to really exploit myspace for awhile there (which hurt webmaster profits). MySpace is now doing some things to fix the whole problem thankfully...

My profile is entirely spam... 100% Its rather annoying

i dont care what myspace does as long as they dont filter outgoing links completely...they can disable links in comments completely cause i run msls sites and dont offer glitters and i dont do comment spamming

I just sent about 40 comments manually to people who's birthday was coming up a lil' while ago. The message said
Want a free Gucci bag?
Want a free Ipod???

Then after a few spaces down it says "just kidding, happy birthday".

Then a few minutes later I recieved a message saying my account was Phished & that I should change my password.
After doing that I checked my inbox & had the following message...
Are weird bulletins, messages or comments being sent from your account?

It is probably because your account got phished. Please change your password to fix this problem You can change your password by clicking on 'account settings' then 'change your password'.

Phishing is when you think you are on one website, but were really redirected to a third party website that has the intention of stealing your login information. Whenever it looks like you were logged out of MySpace.com, please check the web address bar to make sure you are still on MySpace.com before entering your login information. If you are ever unsure, just type back in 'www.myspace.com' before entering in your login information.

Check out these sites for more information:
http://www.onguardonline.gov/phishing.html
http://blog.myspace.com/tom

Thank you!

MySpace.com

So either the people I sent it to immediatly clicked the "report spam" link without reading the rest of my comment, or Myspace has lowered their comment limit dramitically???

PS I did check my sent box & bulletins to see if there was anything in there that I didn't send, and nope there wasn't...

Could be something to do with the new filters myspace is working on to block certain spam. But, I've never recieved a message like that from myspace before.
