are these preferred nowadays or are regular network banners still getting the job done?

depends on the type of traffic u get.
some users prefer normal, some animated and some just dont want one.

so its good to know what your users like.

Animated ones suck, 95% of the time, so I stick to NON-ANIMATED.

i'd have to say animated, the banners have become the main attraction of the layout, and animated just look that much better imho
