God I Hate Animating

Sooo I was talkin to Mawt on YIM last night, and we were talkin about how FWL has gone to crap and MSS is better.. And I decided to attempt a super fancy 2.5MB animation, which I am too stupid to have optimized correctly. Someone. Help. Please. ><

how is MSS better?
what program do you use to make ur animations, i use imageready!
and ur animation takes forever to load, maybe u wana try to optimize or use less frames.
and playing it once isnt good, b/c while its loading it will load and animate superslow so it messes up animation. once it has fully animated the first time then it will animate normally after the first one.

I like MSS layouts much better than FWL nowdays. FWL is starting to suck

I'd imagine any gif that big with that much animation is going to be huge, even optimally compressed. I've not even tried, but can you use a swf for the extended banner? That animation as a swf would only be a couple hundred K at most.

yes swf would work lot better i was thinkin of doin that, but hosting them was the problem. now i use photobucket to host all my layouts graphics and others!

FWL older layouts are still nice, don't get me wrong. But you can tell MSS STILL puts heart into them. FWL NEW layouts are like.. Super quick, crappy garbage. Its like they'll hire anyone to do ANY kind of job lately, don't you think?

The top layouts so annoying. I use high res 1400x900 to view, so when it doesnt mix in, annoying.

And, I don't like MSS layouts, I like FWL's BETTER, I think MSS lays look average, FWL's SOME of them look plain and average, a few look amazing and top Q :)
So, guess it's personal preference, everyone has a favourite and mine are NIETHER :)

yes i see the difference now. well i wouldnt blame FWL, they have worked so hard and now they are slacking a little bit which is understandable since they deserve to have a little break and MSS is just starting out so it needs to produce HQ.

and as for the swf banners, i doubt anyone would make those. since it requires knowledge of flash, not just graphic animation and they have to be hosted on ur own server so your bandwidth will be crazy.

I agree. I love MSS's compared to FWL. Not to mention MSS's site doesn't take 5 minutes to load and tell me I've won a "free apple iphone" or xbox 360 everytime I load a page, or show me an interstitial every 5 pages.

jee whizz... 3.6mb is pretty big :/ you have way too many frames.. you have been using animation shop haven't you?

well I was able to optimize it a bit...

1) opened it up in imageready, 55 frames i think
2) removed about half of them... got it down to 22
3) went back to photoshop, saved to web... 128 colour, using the websafe pallet
4) 1.24mb! or something...

the animation on your site's signature took A LOT of frames... i went cheap and knocked it down to one..

recommendation: go to control panel > uninstall animation shop :P

^- hmm you could do it if you format the extended banner box the same size as the swf then use a div overlay in that area.

well aligning the banner would be the hard part

yep, I personally hate div overlays.. so I doubt swf headers would be worth the effort.
