I've heard sitemaps are really good for your site - and can help google's bots find you and etc. My question is, how do you go about making one? thanks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitemap

not that hard to do, just find a good sitemap generator and it would do all the hard work for you.

I know there are a few types of sitemaps and the way they are set up so it'd probably be smart to search up on what is the most effective. As ajay said, there are plenty of generators around.

www.sitemaps.com is the api reference for the xml style of sitemaps, which google, yahoo and live use.

I don't know much about it and have actually been trying to work them into my sites as well but so far found this site pretty useful...makes them for multiple search engines and such. Has paid upgrades but so far looks like the free tools are all you really need: http://www.AutoMapIt.com

Also not sure how much it helps if any, but after getting a sitemap up, it might be good to verify it here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

Seems to be some other decent tools as well.

I use http://www.coffeecup.com/sitemap/
Then just upload the final file to your site, then go into google and update it with your link and they will usually download it within 24hrs

we use the paid version of http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ - it's worked perfectly.
