ok I have a little dilema. I design websites and Im at a pretty good level. Im not that nice at flash so I was going to hire a pro designer well how do you guys feel about designers that leave their link on your site saying designed by:###. Its like free promotion for something that you paid for. Especially since the traffic that they will get is alot and I would charge alot for what they would get for free. So for pro designers is that common practice? or do you usually leave it off if the person requests it? Im going to ask him later when I see him just wanted some feedback on this topic.

I did a lot of freelance design in my day and generally offered some kind of incentive to leave a "powered by" or "this site developed by" link at the bottom. I think that's pretty standard practice.
To sneak a link at the bottom is kind of, well, sneaky.

personally, I'd be mad if they did that, because like you said, that's free promontion for them that you could charge for.

Every website I see developed for small businesses has a link saying "site design by:" or something....so it's common for me to see that and seems like standard practice to me, but I dunno if they offer a discount etc for it, as it is kinda free promo for what can be very expensive work.

If it's a great well-known designer, then I'd actually be honored to show off who made it with a link on the bottom.

i thought that was like a local thing. Like if your site is just a localB site or something and the town designers made it.

well its for a site that is not small and they would get ALOT of traffic for free. I hope he doesnt get offended cuz I see in all his work he leaves his tag but I dont want that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just make sure its stated in your contract they are not allowed to leave any links in the site and that you have full ownership of the work after they are finished to modify as you see fit.

Yeah piss off your pro designer so when something goes wrong on your site they take a week to respond and dont treat you like someone who respects their business. Good idea. I leave the link there out of respect, if the site they made is impressive enough.

well its not about pissing off anybody. Im going to tell him before I hire him. If he doesnt like it then he can say no. Theres alot more people I can go to. For the amount of free traffic he'll get he should be paying me. Its business not personal, promotion is not free. Most designers in here pay large amounts of money in promotion so I dont see why I should give it to somebody for free when Im already paying him to do the work.

I'll keep what you said in mind that is the reason I asked. Maybe I'll do the the small logo type thing in the footer. The problem was that in his other sites he left a graphic tag designed as if it was part of the layout. To me that just seems tacky.
Any other Pro people let me know how u guys handle this
