Dreamhost SUCKS. You can't even do a backup with their crappy interface

They automatically backup all your files and databases, check their wiki on how too access them. For databases just go into goodies -> mysql, beside it their is a link to one click restore backups from days, weeks, months. As for actual files I forget where they store them, but I do know they do auto backups.

Oh, so they AUTOMATICALLY backup your files? That's good. Do you know how often? :)

Precious, you should do a search on this site for dreamhost and see what people have said. I believe you'll change your mind and switch after doing so...

Ew dreamhost. Sorry, but I don't like them. I tried them before when I was a newbie, they're horrible (for me), my site was always slow. >.>

The only reason i'm with them right now is because I was able to get one year for like $40 some bucks after a $97 discount - and I needed it because the last host i paid and arm and leg for (again, a year in advance may i remind you) disappeared on me! :(

Dont always trust your host to keep a backup of your site as even those can get lost and may be slightly outdated. Not saying its a bad thing as my host does nightly backups as well but I always make it a point to keep a recent backup of all my sites files, images, and database on my own PC especially if your host is like mine and charges $50 for them to restore your site from their backup system should anything go wrong.
