View Full Version : Traffic the same

I've noticed that the larger myspace sites just keep getting bigger, and the other smaller myspace sites just stay the same, and if they increase in visitors, its just a little. Anyone else having the same problem? Then there are sites like doobix, with the same content as everyone else yet getting way more traffic.

Sites like doobix are on the first page of google, and are making so much money. And with all that money, they invest in more content, which brings in more traffic from profiles, etc. Then with even more money they invest in bigger advertising campaigns or in full time content designers to continue updating their site with more content.
And i'm having the same problem, well, not really the same. my problem is that i have all my traffic basically coming from one site, and i don't have enough money to put into more advertising deals and such. Plus, i rank in search engines for some really crappy terms.

Every month or so I hit like a brick wall where I have to spend a ton of time just to like get over the next hump as far as visitors go. Id love to have doobixs positions in Google.

Doobix's content isn't new, as a matter of fact, it sucks. I know this guy gets 100k+ uniques daily and 70% comes from profiles. THis guy doesn't need to advertise. The thing that sickens me the most is that we started at the same time, only he's getting all the traffic. Why? Who knows. I dont see anything on his site that's unique. His layouts are on every turnkey script.

Lets keep in mind that the the site has lots of homepage links from other established resource sites and non myspace sites. I know these links aren't free and if you have 30 or so of these links the monthly bill is probably a solid $x,xxx maybe more. It also has a PR 6 which also suggests paid promotion fora one year old site.
Also there is something called the power law which means most of the wealth of a 'resource' such as website traffic is concentrated in a very small group of players 99% of similar websites get very little traffic.
If your willing to spend enough money you can rank top 10 for a new site for these ulta high traffic keywords and eventually get 100K visitors a day.

Or if you have amazing content that everyone loves, you can also get up to 100k visitors a day. Plus some promotion of course. Its hard to get big these days though. But for instance myspacestop.com gets over 100k a day, and they don't rank in google for very many good keywords, if any. Its their amazing content that got them this far, plus some decent promotion.
But if you start out with decent money that you can invest into advertising, people will come to your site, use your stuff, and won't even care whats on other sites. For the general myspace user, they don't know that the same layouts are on 10 thousand other resource sites, they just know that they are on this site and that they "may" have seen them on aother site, but don't care and will use it.

Yeah i agree, at one point he got very lucky and reached 50k uniques when i only had less. I guess once he reached those numbers it just kept getting larger. I really doubt he spent a penny on links. He already gets tons of SE traffic. Also unique content won't get you very far if you don't know how to deliver it.
Myspacestop has unique content, but so do a lot of other sites. So why would myspacestop get all the traffic? It was registered 4th of november.
edit: i really doubt myspacestop gets 100k uniques.
this is a site ms linked to: http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?login=7391
and for such a visible text link on myspace stop. I'd say myspace stop gets 20k max.

you have to invest money to make money, and get more visitors!
or find a niche way to advertise your site.

There's no way myspacestop gets 100k uniques and only pushes 2k uniques to myspace-lyts with a very good link position like that.
I've linked sites like this before, some with 50k uniques per day, and it has pushed at least 12k uniques per day.

Yeah, it seemed a little weird to me that they only send me so few visitors with that link position but i'm not complaining. its way more than i'd get without it. But then again, it may be their audience not being interested in cute layouts [which is the keyword i use] you know? Anytime i've seen a layout used by them, its a rap/r&b singer layout, never have i seen anyone with any of their other layouts.
And i have a friend who has a link on myspacesupport and they only get 1k from it.
But i know for a fact that they do get more than 20k a day. Thats definitely a fact.

myspacesupport gets ~120-150k unique daily visitors, with 900k-1 million daily pageviews. (found via extremetracker a couple months ago, double checked with their advertising page.)

The web is a hustle. You gotta hustle like anything else. Some got lucky most struggle. The truth is everyone is doing the same thing which doesn't make sense since I believe there is a market for everyone on the internet. If you made layouts of people eating cardboard boxes you would probably tap into some unknown market that no one knew existed.
Myspace is a good testbed for other things but at the rate Myspace is growing you will find that people like variety. If you look like every other site then you probably aren't going to keep people going there.

You have to work you @$$ off if you want to succeed in the myspace resoruce site game today. IF you created a resource site 1 year ago you are going to have less work than if you are starting now. lots of competition. Not easy to rank for the high traffic phrases. You might want to try ranking for niche keywords with much less competiton.

To be successful, you gotta hustle. If you work hard through all the difficult annoying things, you'll eventually get those lucky breaks. Everyone starts with similar resource sites, but I think what makes the difference is who you target, and how you target them.
Does it help if the content is unique? Sure. Does it help if you have a variety of good content? Yes. But what difference does it make if the people you want to help don't even know that you exist? I plan on using my layouts site to figure out what works, in aspirations to build other sites with better monetization methods.

I agree joey. Thats why I plan on using Myspace as a testbed for other sites. It's good to see what people are interested in.

Time and patience is the key. With time, results do come. But well, luck is a big factor, since there are so many similar sites.

Maybe we should all hire a bunch of kids to do our stuff like nuclear century does :\ Just get a dreamhost account since they can host unlimited domains, ask for examples, have domain contests, btu god, DONT install wordpress on dreamhost, because it uses SQL and dreamhosts SQL sucks.
Most these kids just like makin layouts ya know? I do =X
And hey, selena, Myspacestop just has your link in a crappy, "THIS IS PROBABLY A STUPID AD" position and only needs to I dunno, put a heart next to it or something, or make the link hover your button =)

Alot of people I know that have sites that cater to MySpace just make the site and let it sit there... you have to bust your butt to get the word out... My wife will sit front of her computer and nonstop from morning till night she is getting the word out somehow someway... She sits there and creates tags almost everyday, I sit in front of mine trying to figure out how to make more money...
Anyways...
It's been over a year now that SparkleTags has been up and because of stupid rumors on MySpace it's dropping in traffic... And yes I know it's time for a new look (Which I am working on) but I hope in due time it will pick up again...
Everyone needs to understand too that rumors that are being spread is not only hurting us but other image and layout type sites as well... people are getting nervous about getting anything now because they don't want to get their account deleted from MySpace...

yeah like everyone else i agree that they don't get 100k, i see around 250-300 people online on that site during peak.. when i have magical days when there are 250 on my site all day.. i only pull 20k barely (absolute uniques) But, i totally agree that you don't need first page ranking to succeed... amazing content can make your site grow, but the challenge is how to expose people to it :P

If you think about it buying/trading links with good quality content sites will get you less visitors than sites with crappy content. Why? sites with crappy content the visitors are looking for a way to leave since they didn't find what they were looking for. Sites with good content on the other hand the visitor is going to stay on the site longer and is less likely to click out of the site to another.
