What processor would everyone recommend for a desktop that is going to be used for web and graphic design?
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+
or a
Pentium® D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)
?????
I am having trouble picking.. I dont know which ones because I am seeing mixed reviews on these.
All help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would steer clear of the AMD 3800 chip and instead choose one of the higher specification processors from 4400 and upwards.

Probably better to go with AMD rather than Intel at that price range for dual core.

Yeah, I have always heard that the AMD's were better. I am thinking of buying this with a dell.. Something like 1 gb memory, and 512mb Nvidia video card.
Also it comes with a free upgrade to 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache..
I think ill upgrade my processor to AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ for 50 bucks..

Actually im going with a 128mb ATI Video card.. Because that can always be upgraded and will be like once i get it.. But im running on a budget.
I wont be buying anything for a while =D once I can get back to work and get this damn cast off.

There isn't really that much difference between the 3800 and the 4200. Where you see the big jump in performance is with the 4400. If you can afford it, I would recommend you go for that.

Ehhh. I dont know thats like 150 bucks more.. I am trying to get the computer for 750
I think I just might go with 256 ATI Radeon video card.. 1 gigabyte of memory 2 DIMMS, and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+
I mean I dont need a great processor for web and graphic design do i?

Yes, there is usually a bit of a hike up to the 4400.
Make sure the motherboard and RAM can be upgraded processor-wise and go for the highest spec possible with the 3800. Then when you can afford it you can upgrade the processor.

Yeah, Thats exactly what I am doing.. I am also reading reviews on alll the parts in the machine and the machine itself. But dell is pretty good. I have 3 dells, my dads business has 20.. And they have always been good.
The only mistake I ever made was going with INTEGRATED Video.. YIKES!

Yuk. Onboard anything.
Keep sound and graphics on their own cards and put as much RAM in as the machine will take. Sorted!

Yeah, I got as much as I could afford but I still made sure there was 2 DIMMS for memory because I am almost sure there will be bigger chips made like 2 gig chips, (those they already have  )
But yeah I think this machine should do me just fine.

Good luck with it. :)
It's always a trade-off between cost and hardware when buying a new computer. Getting the best you can afford is what gives exactly the machine for you.
