All we do is trade money
on this board
people buy stuff off me
i in turn buy thier stuff from them

same with everyone else...

should we each just trade off our skills freely?

like i make glitters.....
should i make 50 a week for a group.
and someone make 20 layouts for a group
and someone else make 1-2 generators...
and we all trade?

that would be ideal wouldnt it...

get a group of 30 or so people that could each contribute an item.....
and we all would have fresh content every week.

good idea?

im willing to start one and head it.

anyone wanna join?
give ideas...
anything

i would say if we could have some fake payment gateway or something.
that we can have credits for work done and then redeem those credit for other stuff.
will save us a lot of $$ as paypal fees

Daam Paypal they charge over 5% on the payments.
and for off shore accounts is 30 cents extra for every transcation.

then again, some of use do our services only, and rarely buy off others, and sometimes use the money elsewhere..
we shouldnt JUST do a trading system as i look at this as a freelance job making money by doing graphics for others. I think its fine the way it is.

Why not just keep it simple honestly? Why complicate things more than you need to?

well this certainly wouldnt have to include everybody.

So sell your glitters and buy some layouts.

Trading?? That was something people did like 2 centuries ago

Sounds like a nice idea to me.

I do the odd bit of graphics and Flash and also forum posting/moderating/writing if that is any good.

True but one of the fastest growing industries today is based on trading, BarterCard for example has grown from a small office into a huge multi million dollar company. And thats only one example.

This is a good idea, the savings from c/cards and Paypal added up over a year would be significant.

I'm pretty sure there is an option in vBulletin where it can be set up to trade $ among members.

I'm with Fryman on this one, and for Triplex

That's life, that's business.

And as far as the fees go... Please. What do you do when you are in a restaurant? Cringe when you give your hard working waiter their 15% too?

It doesn't "complicate" things at all, your just worried your gonna loose money if this goes ahead, and from this forum you may loose a little $$ yes, but not a lot, cos people still want to buy overpriced glitters for some reason lol...Is what we could do to make the system fare for everyone though is just have occasional groups so once a month everyone trades whatever they want so we just send out big packs and this should mean we all get piles of free stuff and shouldn't affect your income too much Selena? :P
But isn't this just an idea that Precious is running already which does the same sort of thing...You're just thinking of taking it to the next level yes?

actually right there is not too big a point getting into a trading thing.
i have been trading my services on this forum for sometime

$for a $ and it works well.

the only thing that hurts is paypal fees but then again its not too much and there is a way around it as well.

having an alternate personal paypal account
i think there is no fee on incoming money on that account.

Otherwise counting paypal fee as an expense works fine most of the time.

I've done a ton of trading here at MSP. All of this has been done p2p via PM. I wouldn't suggest changing the marketplace at all. It is great the way it works now and I use cash made in the marketplace to buy things you just cant trade for.

i wasnt meaning changing the actual site, just a few of us that are interested get together and everyone contribute something.

There are quite a few vbulletin mods for this type of thing actually. I'm not quite sure how it would be set up initially though. Who starts out with how much..?

I'm more than happy to make the changes as long as the rest of you work out how you want it to work.

i say add a mod like namepros has
that way we can still have cash sales.

im not at all saying to nix the cash sales.
just maybe a points system like or better than namepros

make the points or msp bucks have a small cash value each.

then if someone is selling something they can accept msp bucks or msp dollars or cash

and later redeam those msp bucks or msp dollars for a cash value.

Lol well some ppl like selena said only use their own graphics and things - some people dont need anything. like i dont even have a msrs site, but i still sell my stuff. :P

I think a points based (or something sim) trade board would be a cool addition.

They use a similar free points system at www.kawaiiville.com (http://www.kawaiiville.com)
It's points exchange and it seems to work...

Greg-J
January 19th, 2007, 08:50 PM
But what are the points worth? How do you get them? Buy them? Get them for free when you sign up?

I suppose I just don't quite understand the motivation for a second currency but I'm waiting to be convinced.

Selena

Neither do I Greg. Points are gained through posting, which is all great and well, but gee, why not just trade the graphics, and not worry about the points. i've done trades here before. generators for glitters and stuff like that. Its not that difficult to do by simply trading and not dealing with points and that jazz.

Of course that may be difficult in a group of 20 people...but to me, all the group trades and group buys and stuff have NOT worked out since i've been here. Mine is just now starting to get up and running again, and i don't see any of the other group trades where people make custom content for a group making much progression...

Why not spend the money and keep the economy flowing?

That's why money was invented as a medium of exchange. :)
