Just a quick question for ya.
For example, when creating layouts most of the time designers will extract an image from its original background and add their own background. What tool do you use to extract the image/people from their backgrounds?

(Photoshop) Do you use the pen tool and trace around the outside edges of the object or do you use brushes/eraser and just free hand and erase out the old background?

Sorry if this doesnt make much sense I am tired as he||

Polygonal Lasso Tool. Hold you mouse down on Lasso tool to get it. That's the best way I have come across.

i use psp, but I just trace around it with the freehand selection most of the time.

If I want to use a similar background color as the image I will just erase the edges at a light opacity

This is my main as well, but the pen tool works great for some more complex stuff.
You get the odd background that can be cropped out perfectly with the magic wand too.

I usually look for psd versions of the images I want, if I can't find it I find the eraser tool to work best for me.

Looks like eraser and lasso is the way to go. When I was in school for graphic design they had us use the pen tool. It takes forever. We would get every little nook and cranny. Granted it would look very nice. I havent used the lasso tool in a long while. I am gonna give that a go again and see how it works out.

Just curious where would you find PSD versions of images?
