Yo who here believes in aliens?

if so do you believe they have visited earth and if so do you think they are responsable for our odd religions that don't make any sense?

What do you think about the whole subject? is it just a bunch of loopy ppl who are seeking attention or is the universe really home to different species?

whats your opinion? mine is yes on the first three questions.

I believe in the science of evolution, but quite frankly I don't think having to pay for a religion is reasonable.

I truly believe that their is other life out there SOMEWHERE...however...
I think its stupid to spend billions of dollars on the space program to discover places so far away just to see if there are other species there. Its a waste. If they want us to find them, they'll come over here and find us.

Added something to your reply, Selena.

I agree what a waste especially when we could be using that money for other causes that could help us now.

I think if man could simply find life somewhere else that it would really help "certain" people to get a grip on life and become able to accept general science over religion. Just think if we made contact with another species, how much we could learn. That would really help our planet, we havn't even came togeather as a planet yet, i honestly think we as a species are still quite primitive in that sence. I think if the united states would put some $$ towords finding life in the galaxy/universe instead of spending it on iraq and other crap then we could learn about the other 99.9999% of the universe and expand our horizens, learn about entirely different civilizations and such. I know its out there and in infinite places. Will we ever come togeather as a species to find and learn, or will we continue to feud over things as primitive as religion and skin color.

And this is hypothetical,
but what if aliens were responsable for our major religions like top scientist Richard Dawkins thinks. What would that mean, just think, was someone screwin with us?

And you mean to tell me you believe that if we found aliens it would help us "get a grip on life", more like people would go mental, crazy, hysterical 911 panic mode!
Do you know how SCARY finding out such a thing would be, I mean what if they really are green with wierd shaped heads and attenas? the world has enough confusion in it without throwing this HUGE spanner in the works!
There are reasons that goverments have these "Top secret" area 51 style zones. And it is because what goes on in there is kept from us - for a reason! I believe that it's simply weapons testing etc to keep our countrys one step above the rest in nucleaur weapons etc....However, some may believe that the goverment have ALREADY found aliens and simply WONT tell us because of the confusion and panic it will cause on a global scale - The UK's National Health Service tax will rocket through the roof with the amount of people going into therapy after hearing on the news"HEY, just to let you know we found 2 bright orange aliens today, who happen to have 10 lightyears more powerful weapons than us and could kill us all with the press of one button" LOL

sometimes the truth can be scary but really does that mean we should hide from it. many would panic but thats because it would shatter most of our belief systems. now does that mean we should stay in the dark or should we try and move on to the next phase of being an advanced civilization. we must get over it eventually.

I don't think their are little weird green guys.

I do believe their is life on other planets though.

Selena

Grego, yes they spend a lot on Iraq, but they also spend billions on the space program trying to find other life, when they havent even fixed their own planet yet. Why should we concern ourselves with other planets while theres so much wrong with ours.
Yeah how about a couple million they could throw down to louisiana, or to victims of natural disasters. Heck, MY whole city was wiped out in a couple hours...NOTHING was left and almost a year later, almost nothing is back there still. Why? Not enough money. More money could go into medical research to cure terminal cancers and things of that nature. why do we have to spend all this money looking for something that may, or may not exist.

And yes, so we find aliens. big woop dee doo. How do you know they won't want to overthrow us and destroy us once they realize we're here. Or, what if we spend ALL this money on finding them, only to find out that they are little green algae. Life nonetheless, but not worth spending millions of dollars on. Sorry it seems pointless to me and the end doesn't justify the means in my opinion.

GREGO
January 16th, 2007, 06:40 PM
I see your point Selena, there is much more that we need to focus our money on right now. but i do not agree that finding even simple green algae somewhere would not be very benifiting to us. Even if we only find say small microbial life on mars it will prove that life is not just on earth and help the earth to move on past primative thinking. It would prove religions at least in their fundamentalist dogmatic points all wrong much like when people discovered the earth was not flat. how can we really progress in science when religious morality bars us from really progressing? How can we continue to live on a healthy planet earth when most of us cant even except global warming? Believe it or not most of the people who don't worry about global warming feel that god will take care of the planet or something related to that.
Perhaps searching for life is a waste of money in this time but i feel that just proving that life exists elsewhere would really help us out. it may make us uncomfortable for a few generations but really we can't be afraid of that, think of how many came before our time who struggled and sacrificed to make the world what it is today. we can't stop now. oook i'm done now :)

There's a lot more to the space program than finding life on another planet. It has
ultimately helped us understand our earth that much better. Science needs to study
the system in which our planet dwells to fully comprehend earth itself. It helps
prepare us for our future, and predict the potentially disastrous outcomes.

There are also many technologies that come both directly and indirectly from the
space program funding, that make life better for everyone. Things like medical
advancements, air and water purification systems, sewage treatment, weather
systems, optical technology, fire fighting technology...heck, even your
vacuum cleaner has to give some thanks to NASA.

But yeah, I totally believe in other life forms. I really hope that they're more
advanced than us, because I could really go for some sweet hover board
technology right about now.

I dont know what to believe but I just cant think of the possibilty that we are alone in the universe.

There has been thousands of UFO sightings since the birth of humans, people were seeing UFO's back in the 1400's

I think nasa is a good program. We might need that knowledge someday. For example if an asteroid starts coming twords earth then we will have better knowledge on what to do next.

LOL good one.

on a serious note though. I do not remember what year it was (not to long ago) but I had seen something on TV about how within the span of 3 hours people all across the state of arizona were reporting to have seen a UFO in the sky. Thats just one of the thousands though.

Aliens are human beings from the future.

That is why they dont bother us.
Take for example the supposed alien they captured at Roswell.
Take a look at the body. The reason why they are so small/skinny is because we eventually destroy the earth with nuclear bombs which forces us to live on a different planet which has different qualties than earth, such as gravity. Our muscles become smaller because of spending so much time (years) on spaceships and planets that have less gravity than earth does.

On a side note my buddies dad (who worked Russian Intelligence) said that he saw videos taken by astronauts of UFO's out in space. He also stated that aliens have given us underlying information which directly effects the development of technology. Which sorta explains our exploding technological breakthroughs in the past 50 years.

But who knows......:?

I think i may have actually changed my mind.. This made me start thinking about and reading about this kinda stuff. and I have seen many shows having to do with this topic, and explain how the government is just trying to hide it all from us...

That is what I got from the Discovering channel.

I cant see any reason why there wouldnt be some other life form on another planet. I mean, we humans exist, and what makes us so special that we are the only beings that can exist?

silentsummit

I agree. Scientists say we can't live the way we are on another planet.. That doesn't mean that there are other living things on another planet that were adapted, they would probably tell themselves that they couldn't survive on another planet.

Aliens are human beings from the future.
See I don't get that - time is something that humans created, how can you go back and forth with it... doesn't make sense to me...

I believe theres somethin out there but its not necessarily aliens; could be humans in some other galaxy. If you look at some of the photos of how tiny our solar system is in this section of the universe its just mind boggling...

Interesting trains of thought in this thread - aliens, humans from the future, parallel universe ...
