My dedicated server is starting to slow down a lot now and I'm thinking of upgrading to a different dedicated.
Can anyone suggest some needs for 40 to 100k daily?

Are your images hosted onsite or offsite ?
If onsite you may wanna look into taking them offsite and your server will be like new again.

What sort of process would you go through to move so many images? Can the file structure be kept at the photo host and then a redirect for images? Tools and tips? I'll need to do this soon. don't mean to hijack the thread... now I se that isn't his issue...

Well miller any Duel Xeon 3.0 or higher should do you fine. At leat 2048 GB of RAM if not more also...
With CPanel and some other stuff should run you around $200-$250 per month

Thanks PGZ, I think I may have found the winner for me. It's a Dual Opteron Dual Core. From everything I've read it's much faster then Xeons. Comes with 4GB of memory also. Price is a little expensive but should allow for the most growth I believe.

That deal was from layeredtech, but I chose softlayer instead because of their SLA's and overall products. They are more expensive but are better in my opinion.

I'm using a Dual Woodcrest with 320GB HD and 4GB of RAM and my site is flying. My server load is very low (0.25) even at peak traffic hours.
I get 30k uniques/day
