Why not try awardspace.com or freehostia? :o both allow a free mySQL database, so you could install wordpress on it. And like.. blog. I blog on my subdomain ;(

But if you're looking for a site that's like specifically designed to host blogs, I'd say what people have already mentioned, blogger.com, wordpress.com, livejournal.com, vox.com, blogspot.com, etc.

forward the domain to one of the free hosts... you'll stop updating it after 3 weeks anyway :/
