(I'm using photoshop)
I have an image. Added a background and lowered the opacity so you can look through the background. When I try to save it the opacity is not respected. Tried saving it as a gif, png and jpeg with no luck. Any idea on how can I do this?

I know nothing about graphics so theres prolly an easier way but the way I do it is copy and paste it into animation shop and then save it through that prog.

It should work if you save it as a .png (24, not 8) using the 'Save for the web' option from the main drop-down menu.
If it still isn't working at that, try dropping the opacity some more - till you can barely see it when editing in Photoshop - then 'Save for the web' option again.
It's a bit of a 'try it and see' approach when working with opacity. As soon as you try to compress the .psd image into another format you will lose a good portion of the opacity.

You must save it as a .png using the 'Save for Web' option, as mcfox said - ALTHOUGH this only works with some browsers, you're going to have to research a bit on that because i do know that there's a way to get around that, some javascript or something.

Good point. I've attached the required thingybob for .png's.
