i remember when all the spammers were posting fake things about "see who's viewing your profile" and things like that, i was wondering if there actually is a way to do it - without one of those services that requires the other person to have it too ?

The best tracker out there is from profiletracker.us, and you have to pay $5 a month for it. If you sign up, say falsetigerlimbs referred you ;)

I have a two-year-old tracking code from that site on one of my myspace profiles, and it tracks about 90% of visitors accurately (for the rest, it gives me an IP address and location). It tells me where the person came from, what they clicked on, their e-mail address if they store it in their cookies, the other profiles stored on their computer, and their IP address.
The catch is that the code I have can no longer be inserted; myspace blocked it. So the codes that the site currently offers are MUCH weaker.
One of the codes it offers - step 3a - can automatically track people accurately, but it can't give you referrals/e-mail addresses/what they clicked on (unless you place the IP tracker in pic captions/blogs), and if you don't know what you're doing, and for some visitors, it can cause a problem where your profile will redirect to someone else's.

It's the only website that actually looks for new codes when myspace blocks them though, and better ones crop come up from time to time.

I don't believe it's possible to get the actual person's profile if that's what your asking, there is no way for a third party to do this, but one could track their location, and ip quite easily, it's still not 100% accurate on the location though, it's more of a general area type thing, it could even be states away.

Isn't it against TOS though?

Yeah, it's against TOS. Your profile can be deleted.
But it IS possible for a third-party to get the person's profile, by grabbing the cookies from their computer.
I know this for a fact, because my tracker has been doing it for two years, lol.
Myspace is in a constant battle against tracking codes, and they have now just about stopped all of the best methods, but there is still one weaker method that is working, and which profiletracker.us uses.

I would hope its against TOS!! I sure wouldn't want to be stalked like that, and thats just what it is! There is no reason for any person on Myspace or any Website to do with Myspace Graphics/Layouts and such, to be needing all of that information about a visitor.
I'm glad I read this.........Will make me very cautious of going to other Sites & know which ones to stay away from.
Just my 2 cents, but I find this to be violating, to say the very least! :hammer:

At very most they get an ip address which belongs to the ISP (who is the only entity that knows exactly where you are)

How do they do that from the profile page, you can't use javascript or anything on myspace??

You can, you just have to be very sneaky about it. My code was placed when you could get javascript to work within the "companies" field, and the current code takes advantage of the myspace applications.

If you promise not to report me, I'll PM you my myspace, and you can view source and see it on there ;)

I'll PM you with my link. You'll need to visit it with scripts enabled though, so don't have javascript disabled, or be using Firefox with plugins like noscript or adblockplus.

Also, if you sign up, the codes you get won't work as well as the old ones that I have. As I mentioned, there can be side effects.

;)

(The tracker no longer offers referred by/e-mail/link clicks though, and I'll remove this if you want, OP)
