I host my site on a VPS and today I got an email that my service is being suspended for high cpu usage and prolonged http connections. I only use 2 scripts and those are the easy graphics script and layout script from Marshall. They said it could be those or something else. Has anyone heard of or experienced this before? I don't get that many uniques per day so I know it can't be that.

Are you hosting your images on the server, how much traffic does your site get? If your images are being hosted on the server then when someone uses them and they are viewed on a profile it still has to use your VPS's resources to serve the images. And I'm not real familiar with that script but if it opens HTTP connections and doesn't close them after the visitor leaves depending on your servers set up those connections can still stay open for a good while after the person has left.

I think there is a problem with marshalls script not closing connections properly. I was helping someone who was having the same issue when she was getting alot of hits, she'd end up freezing the whole database. The easy solution (not the good one) was to make the index.php page into a static page that didn't use the script ( use the browser to save the page down as a HTML file and reupload it as index.html). I dont know if marshall has fixed the script or even knows about the issue unfortunately.

open your home page, click file, then do save as, and do full html then rename it to index.html and upload it to your server
