so
i thought about it, and i was CONSIDERING majoring in computer science. BUT after reading the course requirements that go along with it, OH my god, the math is never ending.

I'm lost now. i wanted to do advertising, but then i tossed that out the window because i think i'll grow tired of it, and you can't do much with that other than advertising.

but i looked at all the other majors and nothing seems to catch my interests. whaaaaaaaaaaatttttttt am i going to do?

i really do like computer science, but i can't do all that math. +++++ i hate science (biology, physics, etc) and don't know anything about it due to incompetent science teachers since, 7th grade? :whackit:

i hate thissss

What do you enjoy doing?

^^thats the thing. computers are really the only thing i enjoy working with, but colleges make it seem like computers use SO much math. im sure theres aspects that do, but its completely unnecessary to use THAT much math.

i also can't draw, so i'd suck at a graphic design program that is not digital graphic design.

:? :?

Ya they made us take BC calculus in the course. I really didn't want to spend 3 days on a single problem.

But hey, use it or lose it. I can't even remember how to divide properly anymore. I remember something about an L :( Maybe its all the weed my bf used to smoke around me. Made me sofa king wee todd id.

I can tell you that the math really isn't that complex. However, understanding the theory and knowing how to solve proofs will be pretty important. I can also tell you that Computer Science is not exactly like developing websites. Programming to make things work is easy...but programming to make things efficient/fast/modular/and standard is probably what your courses will be focused on.

If you don't have any other interests, I think you should give Computer Science a try. You can always switch to a different major if you don't like what you're learning.

if you don't like advertising, how about marketing... it's not as limiting as advertising. Instead, you get to participate in a wider range of roles. E-marketing pays well, and it has something do with computer stuff. And juvo is right, they won't teach you step by step to web dev, but chances are graduates in comp sci, would have a good foundation and aptitude to become good developers.

I actually wish I didn't get into engineering...and went into Marketing or Business. That's where the money is at =P

Ya know, I hear ya, I hate math, I mean I can do it in my head on the computer, but do not put it in front of me on a piece of paper, I'll fail miserably...

I told my husband I wanted to go back to school for web designing or graphic designing, and he asked me "Why go for what you already know?" and I said "Cus I can't get a job until I have a degree" but I don't want to relearn all I know, and I don't want to fail miserably at it cus I can't do the math part... Its ridiculous at what they want out of ya...

I don't think i have one engineer friend who actually has a career in engineering. they all did their mba and end up in price water house coopers.

Say what? I thought engineers were paid really well because they were in such high demand?!

web development.. I know the internet seems huge now, but with the way gas prices and everything is going. The internet will probably grow ten fold to what it is now in the near future. I would get into web development!

that's what I should have done, instead I went to a small college for graphic design, where the whole graphic design program was very one sided on the print side of graphic design.. web design was taboo to them. but the print side is the side that will be very diminished in the next 10 - 20 years.

that just reminded me, i read an article that said at the internets current rate of growth vs the rate that internet technology that makes it all work is growing all available bandwidth will be exceeded by 2012?

computer science is not programming. :) If all you want to do is program kiddie web scripts, then computer science is not for you. If you like to develop algorithms, build operating systems, compilers and such...then welcome to the program.

If you can't do the math that's prescribed for the CS major then you shouldn't be in it. The math is the least of your worries. Trust me! :)

i want to go into web development, but can't find decent colleges that offer a web development program. or should i say, i can't find colleges that arent too far awayyy!!

i was thinking of doing marketing actually, as ajay suggested. Changing from advertising to marketing makes the difference between having a business degree and having a mass communications degree, and im definitely thinking business is the better of the two.

I've pretty much tossed computer science out the window now. businesses will always need marketing people, so its decent. All my friends say i'm very money driven so they're trying to get me into business. Maybe so?

Haha, I was in the exact same situation as you. You sound just like me. O_O

I was accepted at UC San Diego as a Computer Science major, but after studying Java by myself for a while, I realized that I do NOT enjoy programming, and also, the CSE major required too much math, which like you, I also don't enjoy.
I am good at graphic design/drawing on the computer, but I can't draw on paper at all, and the graphic design major at my school requires on-paper art too, so I couldn't do that.
And my school doesn't offer an advertising major, so that was ruled out.

I eventually decided to be a Communication major, because there are lots of different communication courses you can take, and many different routes the major can take you down. Courses I have taken so far have applied to marketing, advertising, public relations, even film directing, photography, and digital film editing. If you ever wanted to go into advertising, or graphic design, a communication major would be totally relevant to that. It applies to a lot. You should see if a school near you offers one.

Don't fall in the trap of following where the money is...instead follow your passion...and when you do, the money will come. It sounds so cliche, but it's true.

money is my passion =D
im exaggerating, but in some ways it is. in everything i do, i always see the money side of things, and am motivated, and driven by what can earn more profits.
at work, i am always looking for ways to increase profits, and take notice of the creative methods the company uses to increase their profits.

if i decide business is the MOST boring thing on the planet, then i'll definitely switch my major. But so far, it has fascinated me. i forgot marketing was an option actually, and forgot that i'm passionate about money LMAO. its definitely a major im considering heavily. plusssssss NOT TOO MUCH MATH, i already checked.

no matter what your majors are/were, most of my friends/family ended up doing/starting up their own businesses :) so just choose any majors that you enjoy to learn and have fun during college yearsss...hahaha
i miss my college years so badddd :online2long:

Get into CIS - Computer Information Systems - it covers all of the basics that have to do with a pc from hardware to software. Ask if your school has that program.
