Since I added a new site to my Server all my sites have been loosing a lot of visitors. I am not really to good with servers and don't know to much about them. I can not figure out why this is happening. Does this have something to do with the Ram. I'm pretty sure its not my bandwidth that is the problem. It seems like when you search through my website at times it will just shut down for a little bit. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Usually its the CPU that's the problem =\ But I would contact softlayer to check for sure. They most likely keep logs.

Are the sites slow to load or do they just slow down a lot at times? Softlayer isn't going to give you the best advice, as they are an unmanaged provider.

These are the type of things you have to figure out yourself. I wouldn't recommend a $3 ticket for administration either. You would generally want to hire a management company or an individual server administrator.

There are lots of things that could be going on. You need to check your logs (If linux all located at /var/log/*). Did you optimize your server at all? What control panel (if any) are you running?

Assuming you're running linux, post the output of "top", and "free -m" in this thread, or PM me (I can't PM you back yet though). The first will show the running processes as well as their CPU/memory usages (among other things). The second will show memory/cache usage in MB.

Also as far as the bandwidth thing goes, check your graphs. I assume you have a 10mbps port speed, so are either of the two lines at the 10mbps mark? That will easily determine if it's a bandwidth issue or not.

Check your error logs maybe you have something seriously wrong with your site and the error log is filling up fast causing hard drive activity and loads to rise eventually killing your site.

also try shutting down mail services and see if that helps.

A couple of things to check right off the bat...

1. Check your httpd.conf and make sure it's optimized, esp. MaxClients. There are some good previous posts about Apache config.

2. Make sure your server is not starved for RAM. CPU is less of an issue unless you notice consistent load averages over 10 or so.

3. Watch your error logs closely.

Hope that helps.
