I tried looking it up but cant find it but I did find this...
Of the 11 recessions since the days of Calvin Coolidge, no fewer than 9 began in the first year of a new President.[/i]

So if what you say be true (which Im not going to waste anymore time looking for it.) then 9 of those Rep had just taken office from a Dem. Cant screw things up so bad you cause a recession in less then a year hun.

Ok ask them for a link or proof cause they are the only ones that know cause I cant find it anywhere on the net. Not even the National Enquirer has printed it or nothing.
Also if it is true then my post about it happening in the first year of taking office 9 of the 11 times kills the idea that it was some reason a Rep fault it happened to begin with.

I heard the same rumor as well. Economics are much more difficult to figure out than most economists brains can digest though, so looking to them for answers is little more than getting a slightly more educated (in some cases anyway) guess.
As for the fuel discussions, here are a couple more videos to add to the argument.

Thank you!! Our country is so wrapped up in labels. IMHO, that's just as bad as women voting for Hillary just because she's a woman, or white people not voting for Obama just because he's black.
Did anyone see The Daily Show after West Virginia voted? A bunch of old racists were straight up about why they didn't vote for him. Then Jon showed a pic of their state sign, and below it a pic was inserted that said, "No interviews please". That had me rolling. I'm just tired of closed-minded Americans in general, no matter what the subject.

Not because there was a loss of jobs cause 5.4 million new jobs have been created since Bush took office in 2001 its just the rise isnt keeping up with the amount of new people that are available to work.

I think its actually funny. You want the Feds out of your life 1 sec( ie Patriot Act) But you want them to step in and dictate what a Company does with its profits. Thats insane Greg. How would you feel if they came in and said you were making to much and you have to take your profits and figure out a way for people not to buy your profuct...Also BIG OIL is owned by shareholders and not 1 person. Those shareholders are the American public.
The profits that were made by BIG OIL arent cause of massive profit margin but because of the amount that has been sold. They only make a 8% profit margin. 8% ????????? Thats a sucky margin unless you sell alot in which they do.

The Feds do and have been intervening in purely business affairs long before now and they'll continue to do so. This isn't an issue about a companies profits though. When a corporation and/or corporate market has the power to effect the worlds economy at will, that needs to be kept in check.
I'm personally not upset at gas prices. It should have happened sooner, and they need to be a lot higher. The world is too big and supports too many people to be burning through fossil fuels like we do and without a large enough deterant, that won't change. The oil companies need to jack up the prices and raise their profit margin because it's going to take an awful lot of money to convert the current petrol infrastructure to something more sustainable.
With all that said, if "Big Oil" isn't going to be responsible and start putting some of that money into research and development of alternative fuels, you bet your *** the government should step in. This isn't an issue with the government trying to subsidize an economy with corporate money, this is an issue about the welfare of the planet and placing responsibility where it belongs.
Logging corporations have to plant trees when they clearcut because they're taking a natural resource. Chevron can't put oil seeds in the ground to make more oil so they need to put their efforts elsewhere.
Our civil liberties aren't at risk here so don't try and turn into a Patriot Act comparison, that's a foolish argument.

I don't see what the big deal is about McCain flip flopping on drilling. The times were different in the year 2000, McCain has the right to change his mind. Political views on issues like this deserve to be dynamic in nature.
The 1st video attacks McCain for taking money from lobbyist, and not voting to force oil companies to explore alternate energy. It's hard for me to defend lobbyist money, because I absolutely hate that part of our country, but every politician connected to DC has some relation to lobbyist. As for not forcing companies to explore alternate energy, doing so is not free! Oil companies will simply pass the cost on to consumers in the current gas prices, it's common sense. Something needs to be done to block that from happening. That's why I think both offshore drilling, and research into alternative energy need to be done to balance out the costs in the long run.
I'm 100% for alternative energy, and welcome it with open arms. Our government needs to create some sort of avenue for smaller companies (and there are hundreds of them) to expand. The big oil companies are not going to let alternative fuels take over, there is something like a trillion dollars left in the business. I hate government interaction with businesses, but I'm sick of what's happening to the American consumer. I welcome Congress to bully, punish, and force these oil companies into submission.
This is one of the only issues I support Obama on, and argue with Republicans the most. If Obama gets elected for president, take some money and invest it into alternative fuel companies, you'll be rich.
Rufus is right though that it's not one single person creating high gas prices, share holders have a lot to do with it, but they would also have a lot to do with the rise of alternative energy.

You do realize of course that The Onion is absolutely famous because it is a satirical news site, right? They even made a movie, which is hilarious.
You can't honestly think Bush said this in a public statement:
"The average unemployed person has given so much to American business," Bush said. "Now it's time for American business to give something really ****ty back."
The Onion is completely fake. Not National Enquirer fake, but fake fake.

Some of those are good links but there are high paying jobs that are being created by your own links. Its just they say the low paying jobs are rising at a higher rate.
How bout everyone on this forum pick up the classifieds and look in the Help wanted section. See all those jobs there ? Theres quite a few that are high paying jobs also. Do you qualify for any of them ? I do for some but there are alot I dont qualify for either. So what do people do ?
Sit in their own pity and do nothing ?
Settle for one of those low paying jobs cause they themselves arent marketable ?
Or make a difference in themselves and make themselves marketable.
The person that made horseshoes for a living had to make a change when the cars became big and their business almost died.
Maybe its time you also make a change rather then play the blame game and look for self pity cause with me you will get none if all you do is complain and depend on the Federal government to fix all your problems. You own You and you control your own destiny.
Yeah there are hurdles for everyone. Some more then others but you can do and be whatever you decide you want to do and be.
