So I thought I'd make a tutorial to help people who don't know much, this one will be pretty basic- ish (for me), so give it a shot and post your own goes at using the tutorial.

MAKING THIS:

WAIT FOR ALL THE IMAGES TO LOAD.

First you'll need to find some images, it's obvious that ones that are similar colours look best. If you are using a celebrity try and find ones from the same photo shoot.

I visited http://www.sweetandtalented.com [great site], and got images of Rihannah. I LOVE this photo shoot, I really like grainy, and un staged photos (even though these are clearly staged, the style makes it seem less staged...). Always get more then you'll need, so you won't be going back for more.

These are the images I'll be gathering -

Now open up photoshop, I'll be using cs but you can usually get the same results from most versions from 7 up. I'll be making mine 600px wide, and 400px in height. This isn't for a layout or anything, it's just to make something for fun.

Now just copy and paste the images into photoshop onto the blank file. And resize and arrange them until your happy with the basic positions. Make sure you keep the original images for later... Maybe paste them into another file.

Now use some brushes to erase the edges from the layers. I'll be using some of my own, some from http://swimchick.net and andrew's http://dirt2.com - make sure you visit those sites and download the brushes, they are very useful and awesome. I'll be using other sites brushes because I have my own sets I don't redistribute, and they are nice enough to let you down them ;)

As you've been erasing the edges, you'll need to be moving the images around, and cropping them a little so you can see all the images.

I've also changed the layer mode of the far right image to "darken", and used the polygon lasso tool to take out the edges, and give it a jagged look.

If you do feel the images look too sharp, or the grungy edges aren't to your taste- just use the polygon lasso tool and set feather to 10px.

Now I'm going to make the entire image black and white so I can add colours later, so you'll need to click on each different picture layer and hit CTRL + SHIFT + U.

I'm also going to sharpen all the images, by FILTER > SHARPEN > SHARPEN. You'll need to go through all the layers to do this also.

Because it looks a bit bland at the moment, I'm going to add some bursts of light using the circle gradient tool. Just make a new layer (CTRL + SHIFT + N) and using the circle gradient tool, make a circle with white in the centre and black as the background/outside. Make sure the new layer is above all the other layers. Set that layer to screen, there should now be a white burst.

Either duplicate that layer, (LAYER > DUPLICATE LAYER) or follow those steps to make a couple more bursts. You can also use different colours intead of white, and also try setting the layer to LIGHTEN when using colours for a different effect.

Now for some colours I'm going to use a texture, http://disastertown.org/textures/6.jpg - thats off my old blog site. Just paste that as a new layer, and set that layer to LIGHTEN

Now we're getting somewhere... now just add some text and we're ALMOST finished.

To make it a little more interesting, I'm also going to duplicate one of the images, and paste it again but resizing it to make it smaller.

If you want borders too, either go around the edges with a black brush on a new layer that above the rest, or use the polygon lasso tool to make some interesting shapes [thats what I do].

After that- flatten the image and it's complete.
