I have been using Photoshop for about 6 years, I have known brushes exist but I have never bothered to look into downloading any. I always presumed I was doing ok without them... I had the idea in my head they were simply different shaped brushes, stars, circles, crosses etc.

It turns out they are just different shaped brushes, but are far more than just different basic shapes. About 3 days ago I started downloading brushes from deviant art (I think through a link mcfox posted somewhere, maybe someone else I forget). I must have download well over 100 so far.

Amazing. How can I have been living and using Photoshop virtutally daily and designing things without these brushes? Not only are the effects 10x better than the ones I was manually creating but I can create them in about 1 second, only the sheer choice of which style to use holds me up.

I am making stunning layouts now in half the time, if you don't use brushes, use brushes! The more I use them the better I get at knowing what looks best, and I continue to be amazed by brushes.

This topic serves no purpose other than me to say, I love brush sets, do you love brush sets?

Funny that you mention this, I just bought photoshopbrushes.org and I'm going to be adding a lot eventually.

i have been a fan of brushes ever since i got into graphic design. Although i don't use photoshop, i use paint shop pro, which uses brushes as well. I couldn't possibly make anything without them. I almost cried and had a heart attack when i deleted the My PSP Files folder and i looked in the recycle bin and couldnt find it. Luckily it was there, but they're so important to me.
I have about 1000 brushes in my paint shop pro right now, and ilove them and keep getting more. It aggravates me sometimes when i can't get some wonderful brushes because i have PSP and not PS but you get around it.

Use brushes. It sorta suprised me when i read this and found out that its possible not to use them O___O

Does anyone know how to make brushes?
Not on the digital side. But I have a friend who got paper and splattered it with red ink, then he scanned it and made a blood splatter brush.

I use brushes for mostly texture stuff right now.
I threw up a quick tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv_LdxYONFU)on how I use them, for anyone that hasn't tried them yet.

Wow, I couldn't think of making graphics without brushes - they're the basis of my work o_o

I make brush sets myself sometimes. With Photoshop, basically you get your image you want to turn into a brush and go to Edit >> Define Brush.

I just download some of my brushes from www.photoshopbrushes.com and then put them in the directory and go from there. I also make some of my own, but I like to try out other people's brushes to see what theu are like.

I love brushes. I have a whole folder of them saved in my PSP file.
Sometimes the brushes are varied because i'm using PSP but there are loads of brushes for PSP too.
