View Full Version : thinking about making a site for layouts...

...but I've never put a layout on my site before. I need a bit of guidance because I learned HTML back in the day but never bothered learning CSS (not that I haven't messed with it/can't at least interpret it).

Okay - so I plan on buying layouts for my new site - I don't plan on making any myself, at least not for a long time. So, if I buy a layout with these files:

bg.gif
contact.gif
css.php
css.txt
thumb.jpg

I host bg.gif, contact.gif and thumb.gif on my site, then post thumb.jpg on my page as the example.

In the CSS code I change the image locations to where they are hosted.

Then under the thumbnail on my site I create an on-click type of code box and fill it with the code from the css files in it? The CSS part is where I get confused. Do I just combine the text and php in the code box and hope that they work? lol.

I'm more like a boon than a noob when it comes to this stuff so I don't have to be babied through it (in other words helping me should be "groan-proof") but I do need a little help.

Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to set me straight. I'll be sure to send out green to those who help!

Tammy

What your saying makes no sense to me...
So you want to put them on your site obviously, and then you put the code into the textarea...

But then I don't get what your saying.

On my site, I use php includes within the code area, which grabs the code which has all the css in it. For example lol
But when your on a smaller scale etc, no need to worry about the msrs version- just use put the code into the text box.

Not sure if I understand it right but you can just add the css code of the layout into the textarea box. You won't need the css.php unless you're using MSRS.
Maybe you should try a layout script like Marshall's at least that way you won't have to change everything manually :)

The css.php is usually used for the MSRS and MSLS scripts so you shouldn't need them.

The layout code you need will (or should) be css.txt or style.css :)

Edit:
Snap Nora LOL

Yep Marshalls new script is very very easy to use especially for newbies :)

Sweet thanks everyone. That's where my problem lied - I didn't know the php one was for MSRS so now I see that it's as easy as I was hoping it was lol.

Sorry I confused you all!

Sending green and thanks Nora, I'll totally look into that layout script. :)

OMG - I just checked out that MSRS script in the product section and I was blown away. This whole time I've been doing my website without a script like that and I could have added so much more if I had known, even though I wasn't even interested in making my own layouts or adding them to my site initially.

I had to do a lot of digging around the forums today before I found it but I'm glad I did. I totally get it now. My hubby said he would spot me for 1/3 of the cost of the script and by mid month I'll have raised about $125 from my writing...w00t!

I'm obviously stoked. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guyses!

Are there still licenses left? I thought they were all sold out.

/o\ I hope so...

I found that MSRS script at http://www.myspacepros.com/products/ - I don't know if that's the one everyone else is talking about or not, but it looks like it is still available.

I hope I hope I hope :P

I think it's only the MSLS that is no longer being sold :)

Will this allow me to start a Graphic Site without having to hire a programmer or build a site from scratch?

I want to be able to provide graphics, etc.......

Thanks!
