View Full Version : Buying all TLD's?

Let's say I own siteabc.com
Some people got confused and typed siteabc.net

If I bought siteabc in .com, .net, .org, etc... is that a good/bad idea or waste of money?

And if I did, and each redirected to the .com, could this be a problem? I don't think it would?

Now the final question. If I have siteabc.com at 1and1, but I wanted to buy all the other domains (siteabc.net, siteabc.org) at say godaddy, could I do that, and have them redirect to siteabc.com?

Thats a good idea and a great way to protect your investment. And no, a redirect shouldn't cause any problems =] Buying the nets and orgs are a great idea =p I can't see why anyone would type the garbage like .info and stuff. Jut get com net and org

Okay great =)

Now I need some suggestions as to where I should buy them, should I buy the domains at godaddy or not?

I have 1and1 for my .com but I don't want to buy them at 1and1 unless it's the best way to go?

I have been using ipower.com for over a year and haven't had any problems. You can have one account with all your domains in it to manage easier like godaddy etc. The domains are only $6.85. Only thing is I do NOT NOT NOT suggest using paypal to pay, I've had a nightmare using it today for the first time. I always pay via credit card and have never had an issue =)

I wanted to pay with PayPal so I don't have to bother asking my mom but thanks for the advice! :)

Godaddy wouldn't let me pay with paypal
They would let me pay with paypal but it was still using a credit card? :/

I use paypal with Godaddy too.

I think you have to add your paypal acct to your godaddy first though, not sure.
Look around on there and see if thats the case- cuz they do accept paypal ;)

And buying those other domains is a good idea!

I think you mean TLD ;)

Anyhoo, it's highly unlikely that you'll get any type-in traffic from anything other than the .com version . You could buy all the other domains at different registrars, it doesn't make a difference. I suggest that you stick to known registrars if you're going to be serious about domaining. Never, ever buy a domain from a host (too many complications), use ICANN accredited registrars.

If you've got your heart set on buying the other extensions, buy them only for a year and monitor their stats very carefully. If they make you money, then renew; if not then sell them before they expire.

its a good idea if your site is BIG ie top 40k ALEXA OR if you own a business.

but if its not i wouldn't waste the $$$ each year.

it wasn't PayPal having trouble at Ipower it was Ipower having trouble tracking their PayPal transactions. Anyway if you are really wanting to use a credit card and not paypal you can always go to a local bank and spend $4.95 to load up a visa giftcard with any amount and you can use it online as a credit card anywhere =)

Yes, you can, but why you should buy all domains similiar to your main domain.
Org name as addional to com name, should be enough. But if you want to make strong brand from your website, you might think about buying another domains.

Melissa you can't buy from godaddy cos your PayPal is unverified. =)) Those who said PP worked probably had verified accounts. XD

Try www.namecheap.com idk if you must verify or not though.

Oh thats weird. I thought that message would go away if it was verified cos I had that message when I tried to transfer a domain. Sorry Melissa for the confusion lol.

Enom and Namejet are 2 registrars you should stay away from.
just last week they took about 80 domains away from someone
only to sell them at auction on namejet site (http://domaining.com).
