Please review my non-msr site template

This is my first full template, and I would like to get advice.

I think its really good. The only thing I don't like is those big navigation buttons but I doubt the people viewing this site is going to care about that.

That's what my brother said about the buttons. I think I agree. I'm going to try to first reduce the border size. If that doesn't help, I'm going to remove the border all together.

I don't like it. Not easily read, and doesn't look professional.

I tried to be more constructive than that, but I can't tell exactly what makes me feel it's unright.

I changed the buttons and made them smaller. I also changed the background from pure black to #111111 because I think it makes it easier to read.

Unfortunately I'm stuck w/ that blue and yellowish letters, because it's the site owner's premade logo color choice.

What do people think now? Should I change the buttons more? Change the #111111 to something else? Anything else?

I shrunk the size again. Maybe I should increase the surrounding text size? I want some size in the menu because it's short, and I think a small, short menu looks too old school.
