View Full Version : Why did you first get into glitter graphics? What was your original muse?

I like to think that I'm not the only one here who got into glitter graphics purely for the love of glitter. Around here, there's a lot of talk of PR, Alexa, and $$ in general. Considering we all run MySpace graphics websites, that's fully understandable, but you'd think that everyone got into it for the earning potential. I know that can't possibly be true, so I was wondering:
How long have you been into glitter graphics, what was your original muse, and when you first saw a glitter or one of the old-school dollz, were you like, "OMG I LOVE THESE - they are so me!" or was I the only one with that reaction lol.
The first website I ever ran into was http://playin_pretty.tripod.com/ back in 2004 and I learned how to make my own basic glitters not long after. When I first saw the glitter on those dollz, it blew me away. I was 26 or 27 at the time and felt like a little girl all over again. I had finally found a passion that was more productive than collecting designer lip glosses - not kidding. :/
I even dragged my husband over to my laptop. I had a huge grin on my face and he said, "Yep, that's aaalllll you!"
I was already familiar with Photoshop because I used it at work all the time, but this was sooo cute and totally new to me and I fell in love with it.
What about you all?

It was pure boredom that got me into making glitters. I think the first time I realized what they were was here on MSP after that I bought the domain Glitters.tv so I had to work on content. I'm over the whole glitter thing now because they're annoying to make.

I started when I was like 12, making the glitter graphics and dolls lol. I just liked the look of them I guess and I'm a creative person so it was a good way to be creative.

I used to run a glitter graphics forum and started out through pure boredom.
Although I sell graphics here and run several resource sites not a single one of them makes money as I have no advertising on them other than my host button :)

I started out by going to websites and saving them to my computer to add them to my easydesigner aol homepage. I did not know if i was stealing by not linking the creator of the glitter. Anyways, I found a doll site that had a glitter tutorial.
I did like making glitters, Not so much now.
I still have my first glitter. ewwww lol http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v150/maricza/glitter%20comments/Animation1.gif

I was into making humor sites for advertising money but then that became over populated so I switched to the myspace scene and pretty much taught myself to make glitters my own way..
had some bad luck with ****ty mscms/profile cms scripts and just never really got anything going in the area.. the glitter sales have made me beer money basicly.
here I am about a year and 4 months later.. ready to move on again
the glitter thing is ok, I enjoyed doing humor sites more because it put me in a good mood.. now with glitters it's striving to come up with phrases and tagging.. blah

My glitter phase lasted about 3 months waaaayyyyy back in 01 when I saw the first glitter patterns and they were not popular yet. Now, I hate glitters and making them. I only have a few on my site because OTHER people like them so much. They annoy me, because it seems alot of people have forgotten there are other ways to animate. I got into dolls first and I still like them, but I can't make them because I don't have time. The dolls are better to me because they actually take work of designing their outfits and then hand drawing them pixel by pixel until you get it to look just like a tiny glittered tank top. Or perfect looking highlighted fringe bangs. Now I make all layuts and comments.

Thanks for all of the replies - I like hearing how everyone else got into this.
Back before I had my site, I had other ways of animating my graphics - I had more time to mess with them too, but for some reason I keep going back to glitter (but not too snowy I like to think). I'm a total girly-girl, but it's to my disadvantage when it comes to graphics. I tend to have tunnel vision as far as what is appealing to me. But, whatever.
I'm not bored with graphics yet, but I think I'm almost ready to try other things soon. What, I have no idea.

I started by accidentally coming across dollie sites, you know, in FRAMES about 3 years ago.
I then started looking at tutorials for HTML and graphic design and taught myself.
I made my first graphic site in (frames) 2006 & it pretty much sucked, but I did it for the LOVE of MAKING graphics and glitters. I then moved to Iframes. And sometime last year I switched from HTML to PHP.
Only recently did I realize that I could make money from all of this [[ so happy yippee ]]

I got into glitters/MySpace stuff because my niece asked me to make her some stuff. Before that I only did web design for websites, government, etc. Making the leap from that to glitters wasn't too hard and I find glitters/MySpace stuff to be more fun ;).

Thats funny that you say you have girly tunnel vision. I am also a total girly girl in person. I CAN'T make girly graphics for nothing! They always look cheesy. I make good guyish graphics. Thats why my friend got me onto her guy myspace site. She knew I'd be good for it.
