Will a root dir redirect to subcat hurt seo?

I'm wantting to redirect my home root directory to a wordpress sub category, but I was wondering if it will negative effects towards search engines since they'll see my root directory being redirected.

And if so, is there a proper way to do this so it doesn't hurt me on search engines.

If your planning on redirecting your domain to a subdomain or subfolder, I wouldn't...

When is the last time you seen a subdomain, or subfolder score higher than a domain for competitive words :)

If you insist though use a 301 redirect either via .htaccess or php header

Thanks, I was able to install my wordpress to the root directory instead and worked out great.
