I have to get a job to pay it off though, since I don't have any real sources of income and payments are like 320 per month, still need some magical way to get 800.00 by april. eh. Stress much? I guess it's time to get started with life, Still determining weither I should stay online doing stuff or get a minimum wage job... I have um a week or so to decide... Anyways yeah.. New car, Not exactly showing off because I never wanted the car, ever but since I only had one source of credit I had no other options... Anyways, I have some big choices to make...

Go get a job at an advertising agency, design company or something, you have talent so you shouldn't limit yourself to online or minimum wage jobs :)

Pretty car btw

you could also look into doing freelancing like on elance.com and other sites, they have a section for graphic artists, you're extremely talented dude, you can make it work. (Y)

Wait, why did you get a car if you didn't want one? :|

So lost here. Looks good though.

Dude just get a job in a graphic design firm...they'd pick you up so fast if you showed them your portfolio.

My husband and I were looking at an '07 Civic yesterday!
The kicker that made us want it was it gets 40 MPG and is a 5 speed.
But payments would be $235 a month & insurance would be full coverage.
This one was red. I loved it! I want it!

I like the one you got though :) They're really nice cars & rather roomy!
Congrats & good luck on the job/stress stuff.

wtf is a design firm
opposite of design soft.

anyways, i've seen the portfolios of the design firms in my area and seriously they're really crappy at what they do. but they're rolling in money because their clients have no clue what good design is. but yeah you should get a job at a design firm, steal their clients and then start your own company.

Google "Your City + Web Design"

There should be plenty if you live in a big city. Most of them usually require you to have a degree in graphics communication but I think if you have enough experience and a killer portfolio, it shouldn't be a problem. Good luckkk

You're in LA right?
Came across this when I was browsing Rihanna's horrible official website: http://www.ladesignstudio.com/

you would not be able to get a job at a advertising agency with out qualifications unless you knew some one.

you need to at least have a diploma in advertising.

A design firm is a company that specializes in graphic/web design.

Nine times out of ten, they won't hire you unless you have a degree and it's most likely that they will require you to have a portfolio with range. They may be really strict. For example: They may want to see your work on both web and print. Having a portfolio full of screen shots of old layouts that one made for personal websites won't do. They want to see live examples of professional websites. Aside from what you do on the internet, this includes graphics in/on things like magazines, brochures, books, posters, etc.

I know the firms in my city stinks and they're still in the 90's. They will hire a crappy designer with a degree in Graphic Design over a kick-*** designer with no degree in a heart beat.

However, you should still try and apply to different firms in your city just to make sure.

^ Exactly, it's just a company specialising in that profession or whatever. I thought everyone knew what a firm was :|

Just put your resume in a few places, have a go.

You're portfolio will need to be exceptional. Most firms are strict about what they want and presentation is KEY (which should be pretty obvious as a design). You'll need to provide print and web. Don't print your web work give them a DVD portfolio for them to keep. Have an online portfolio. Firms (directors and whoever else my interview you) from what I've experienced have huge egos. Don't come in with one, but be confident.
It's very competitive. If you're not the typical 9-5 worker, it'll be hard to adjust. You should at least come away with 2 years of working for a firm.

Honestly, majority of my designer friends are freelancers and they do very well. But they have partners they occasionally team up with be it local or across the world. So be willing to outsource and work with others to get the job done. I always hire people for things I do not have time for.

The other vehicle you can take is get into a lot of contest local (domestic & internationally). You'll get your name out there eventually. You got to work on your deadlines. I find my self not sleeping for 2 days coz of deadlines. No matter if I had 3 weeks to do something, I still find my self up for 2 days straight finishing before deadlines. I work better under fire.

PS. why did you get a car if you didnt want one? was it spontaneous? I bought a honda pilot last year on a whim last year when I worked for a client in LA. The record label was in the Valley and I stayed in Long Beach, so I figured what the hell. 2 hours commutes should be done in a nice car. Anyways to make a long story short. I finished my contract earlier and went back home to San Francisco. Now I have a $700 car payment. The Leather seats and Navigation system was worth it, but it's the Gas Prices that give me heart burns!

Why go minimum wage? There are lots of jobs out there that don't require a degree that pay more, customer service and tech support are some of them. If you don't mind physical labor there are warehouses, electrical/plumbing apprentice, factories, construction.....There are probably hundreds of different jobs that pay over $10 an hour in the L.A area, just depends what you're willing to do.

you should get income before getting a car lol
